Healthy, tasty and on a shoestring!

Hey,

I am a student and I really REALLY need to start thinking about my diet! I would like to lose a few pounds but also I am not eating great food at the moment because of my budget that comes with the territory of full-time education ... grr! I suppose I will be glad of it in the end!

So what I am looking for is any suggestions for meals/recipes/snacks that people have found to be healthy, helps to shed the pounds, is tasty (I don't fancy chewing on cardboard! lol) and most of all is cheap and easy to make as I don't have much free time when I actually get back into the uni term!

So if anyone has any suggestion I will be extremely happy to hear them!

Thankoo

A tuna sandwich with light mayo and lettuce or raw spinach on sprouted whole wheat bread is my favorite :)
It's cheap, fast, and you can just wrap it and throw it in your backpack til lunch time.

there are some stirfrys in tesco that im gonna stock up on when i go back to uni. they are like £1.20 and taste good with a sauce. all the veg is already cut up so its just 3 mins in the frying pan. also buy lean turkey or chicken slices from the meat counter instead of out of a carton, and add it to wholemeal bread. my plan is to make a big salad(add what you wish) and then take parts of it to lessons with me in those plastic boxes-it will be healthy keep hunger at bay and cheap to make.

basically if you add 10mins preparing your meal in advance and plan ahead, eating healthy is cheap. go for fresh fruit at a grocers as it will be cheaper and tastier. avoid packaged items as much as possible, but buy a few cereal bars and carry them in your bag as emergencies instead of having to buy out of vending machines

Buy in BULK and its cheap! Chicken can be frozen and used when needed. also cottage cheese is dirt cheap and a great, healthy snack. thats hwat ive been reading anyway

what is sprouted whole wheat bread?

I believe instead of grinding grain to make the bread they actually sprout the grain (let it begin growing) and grind that up.
