Healthy diet for someone on a fixed income?

Hi. I'm currently 19 and overweight. I've tried the whole "starving" myself routine before and I lost roughly 40 lbs. in a matter of a few weeks. The thing is, though, is that I gained it back plus more in no time once I started eating again. That being said, I would like to start eating like a normal person, but eating healthy. I'm far from being wealthy by any means being only 19 and all, and I'm curious as to what kind of diet would be suitable for a low income - i.e. what kind of foods can I find around the house that people normally overlook?

I hear people praise egg whites and tuna, and I'll probaly use these foods as breakfast and some sort of snack.. but what other good foods are out there? How is cheese? Is it good for dieting? I'd really just like to hear everyone's opinions. Thanks in advance.

diet on a budget

Hi,
You don't really need to be wealthy to loose weight properly. Actually if you take an inventory of what you're eating right now you might find that you'll spend almost the same amount if not less.

Take lunch for example: Try preparing your own meals for lunch and snacks instead of hitting the fast food places, and you'll notice not only that you're eating healthier but saving money as well. If you do go out for lunch, a salad with water, or a low fat sub with a low calorie drink will cost less than a combo meal at McD or BK.

As for dinner, same thing. Try preparing your own meals more often and avoid the fast food joints. The South Beach Diet has some simple, easy to prepare recipes you can take advantage of. ;)

Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive. You have to get rid of the processed junk, eat less fast food and soda, and add lean meats and veggies..........AND control your portions!
