Hcg?

Has anyone tried this "HCG diet"? I'm trying to lose a few pounds before Christmas and have heard good things about this program. However, as my Grandfather always used to say, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." I've found what I think is the cheapest site to buy these drops, but wanted to get some opinions first. Anyone?

Sorry man, but it sounds like a seriously BAD idea!!! I didn't research much, but I did read this...

"hCG stands for Human Choriogonadotropin, the hormone produced by pregnant women in the early stages of pregnancy. Research suggests a small, daily hCG injection (approx. 125 IU to 200 IU) results in a weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs per day, and often more, when accompanied by a VLCD (very low calorie diet of apprx 500 calories)."

wow, really? sounds like a recipe for death to me.

I'm pretty new here and really don't want to offend anyone, but I really don't see where anything in this quote is a bad thing. I think I will give it a try. I can always start eating more again if I can't handle the low calorie diet. Now, has anyone seen a good place to buy HCG? I found one site (REMOVED) which seems to have the best price, but I've never bought diet stuff online before. Opinions?

Well, links arn't allowed so it was removed. We dont' need to know which site you bought your pills at, sounds spamming. Don't ask us to recommend sites, no one here wants to be responsible for someones dangerous and careless "extreme diet".

Do you honestly don't see how 500 cals a day is VERY dangerous??? NO ONE should go below 1200 cals a day w/o doctor supervision.

Absolutely Korrie.

I suspect that a lot of people do not read the postings here that tell about how a VLCD has been demonstrated to cause muscle wastage - since surely no-one would want to take risks with things like heart muscle.

There was that really sad story in the media section of a young bride that died a couple of months ago from just that cause...

I have done a lot of research on hcg manufacturers. Not all of them are the same or reputable. I work for a medical device company assisting the company to comply with FDA regulations so I can tell when a company is reputable or not.

I saw someone post in this thread that they found a cheap site. I don't think I would order from the cheapest site, but that is just me.

I did the hcg diet and went from a size 12 to a size 4 in 3 weeks. It has almost been a year and I have kept the weight off. I have to say this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I feel wonderful. If anyone is interested in trying it and have questions about it, I will be happy to give you my experience of being on the diet.

Sorry Korrie, I just read your post that we are not allowed to place links to other sites here. I wasn't trying to spam or anything like that. I did a lot of research on hcg manufacturer and thought I would save the others time by not having to research themselves. I wasn't sure how to remove my link...but I think I figured it out. :)

Again, sorry.

HGC - can be good and it can be bad, depending on your lifestyle. I have sold it, I have used it. Some people swear by it....others, like myself couldn't function on it. 500 calories a day isn't healthy and the recommended food intake is horrible and nasty. Yes, it will result in muscle wasting. Yes, you will gain the weight back unless you stay below recommended calorie intake. If you take it, take a time released multivitamin as your body is seriously lacking in nutrition. There are much better ways to lose weight, more nutritionally, without killing yourself. HCG is a starvation diet...you would lose the same amount of weight without it on a 500 calorie diet...just sayin'.

I hve been using the HCG although I do not entirely follow the 500 calories and I am sure that if I was to just reduce my calories and exersize I would loose weight but it is like this forum sometimes a little motivation is needed. I just read my first post and was happy to see the frustration in October with being stuck at 205. I started at 225 and I am now at 185. This was not easy and not just HCG. I spend several nights a week at the YMCA doing kickboxing, spinning and swimming. I watch what I eat and have only a cheat day about two times a month. I eat a lot of seafood clams, oysters, fish and crab and lots of veggies and fruit. Everything is baked or broiled or fried without grease and seasoned with low or no calorie seasonings. Being over the 50year mark it is much harder to loose weight. I was so happy when I had a interview and needed to dig out my dress clothes to find they were all way to big! Iloved shopping for a new outfit. I don't think it matters what works but to believe in something and do it is what is important. Unless you are not overweight I can not see how anything that helps to loose weight can be bad. Being overweight and eating fattning foods can cause more damage than most of the diets that I know.

well manly because HCG isn't meant for weight loss. Never was. It is like taking baking soda for herpies. The plan works because of the reduced calories. nothing more. Might as well take a sugar pill.

this post is a little old from last year but HCG was banned in december 2011 and alot of the sites claiming to be selling hcg drops and things are fake and the scam warning websites are filled with fraudulent charge posts from these HCG sites. Especially fraudulent charges related to sites offering free trials. Just a warning if anyone was tempted.

I love the armchair experts who always trot out the same old 'authorities' on what's safe and what isn't. Experience is what counts, not a party line from some mouthpiece for a vested interest at the Mayo Clinic or the FDA (who both work for the interests of pharma). Unless, of course, you're a baby and don't want to learn for yourself.

Perhaps Professor J could explain what hCG is meant for? Have you read Simeons' papers or did you borrow your opinion from someone else?

There certainly are loads of scam artists associated with the hCG diet. There are scam artists associated with anything that involves money but that doesn't reflect on the hCG diet especially. Should we all stop buying houses because of real estate fraud?

I'm on an hCG diet now. I'm injecting myself. I know nothing about the use of drops and even less about homeopathy.

It's day 36 and I've lost 36 pounds which makes the calculations fairly simple. The loss was steepest at the outset but has been a steady 0.75 lb per day for the past 25 days and shows no sign of leveling off at the moment. For me, this is the selling point of hCG: by avoiding use of structural fat, I'm not sendng my body into starvation mode whereby it will utilize protein for calories and try to lower my metabolic rate to conserve energy. I'm male, fairly heavily muscled and 52 years old. I would expect to lose faster than a woman of my age and build but slower than a younger male, for example. This has been achieved with no exercise, which I don't promote - I have just finished physio for achilles tendonitis and started back on my Wii Fit 3 days ago.

With reference to starvation and its effects, I can offer some information. Last year I fasted, water and vitamins only, for about 6 weeks. My weight loss was slightly quicker than on hCG, about 1 pound per day, but I hit a wall after the 6 weeks and felt like crap as well as losing no weight. I have no doubt I was consuming muscle too as my breath stank and my pee smelled strong. The latter is due to the high urea content brought about due to excretion of the amine part of amino acids where the rest is used as an energy source.

I'm not experiencing any of these unpleasant effects on hCG. My ex and my daughter are also doing the diet and have lost 100 lbs and 80 lbs respectively. Both were obese at the outset.

In summary, my experience with hCG is a positive one and I will continue. I'm afraid that experience has taught me that if the FDA or Mayo Clinic or any one of a host of 'authorities' tells you not to do something it's because their sponsors can't make money out of it. The reverse is also true; for example, the FDA licensed aspartame despite contrary science.

That doesn't mean that there's not quackery out there but I'd suggest that listening to others with experience might be the best way to determine what's likely to be safe and workable. The overweight and obese population represent a great source of income for the diet industry. It's in their interest for you to fail and keep buying. The same is not true of individual human beings who share your problem.
