Hey everyone,

i lost about 40 lbs since i started excercising and dieting. unfortunately the past 2 wks i have not lost one pound. I have not really gained any weight but have not lost it either. i eat about 2000 calories a day, work out for 2 hours. pretty much same thing i have done ever since i started. this is getting really annoying and i am losing motivation.

is this normal? did something go wrong? any help is appreciated. thanks

why would you lose motivation? though working out 2 hours every day could get to anyone after a while...

Plateaus can happen -though two weeks really doesn't make a plateau...

Not gaining is a good thing... so you might have found a maintenance level for yourself...for right nowanyhow

what are your current stats... height/weight/age

How long has it taken you to lose 40lbs?

what does your food plan look l ike and are you recording everything you eat? What's your workout look like?

sometimes you need a change in your program... and it might mean calorie adjustment or workout adjustment

I hate to start a new thread for every question I have so hopefully I can just add my question to this thread. I finally reached my intermediate weight loss goal early in January. I continued to lose weight until I was 3.6 pounds under my goal. In the last 7 days I have gained 8.2 pounds in spite of continuing to diet and exercise.

wtf?

Why, how can I possibly put on over 8 pounds in 7 days and what can I do to get it to go away? I'm already working out 2 hours a day and consuming about 1800 caloires per day.

I suggest starting your own thread.

I changed my diet further and I DROP my weight further too.

During my "88kgs" days......I literally tried all means in order to get my weight (Fats) down to my ideal 60kgs+ but initially it was very slow.

However, when I decide to educate myself and consume only food that "burn fats", it significantly recharge my results.

Anything that's "natural" and unprocessed are very good and of cos.....at least 4-5 small meals space out at 2-3 hours intervals daily is crucial for your weight loss success too.

Hope this helps.

Do feel free to message me if you need any more info.

Cheers to you.

i am about 5'11 and i weigh 300 pounds

it took me about a little less than 2 months to lose 40 lbs. i am still very overweight.

typically this is what id usually eat:

oatmeal (skim milk, splenda) for breakfast
a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch
turkey sandwich for dinner (after i work out)

sometimes id change things around like i would eat a bagel for breakfast or maybe eat some rice and meat for lunch, etc..

but overall i am usually eating less than 2000 calories. and i know i burn a hell of a lot more than that.

my work out is like this:
1 hr - moderate lifting (enough to get the heart going yet build some muscles)
30min - cardio.. running, ellipticals, bikes,etc.
15min - boxing... this tires me out more than the running and what not
and i play basketball for 30min - 1 hr if the gym is empty and skip the 30 min cardio.

have you checked that calorie total to make sure you're not putting your body in starvation mode?

what do you mean? well i dont count calories everyday . i usually estimate it and 90% of the time its around 2000 or under. last night i actually did count my calories and it came upto about 1940.

the only thing that happened within the last couple of weeks that could cause this was that i didnt work out for 4-5 days as i was on vacation and kind of ate a bit more than what i have been eating lately. surprisingly when i came back and i checked my weight it was the same as it was before i left. its been about 2 weeks since then and I have not lost a single pound.

well what I meant was...this

oatmeal (skim milk, splenda) for breakfast
a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch
turkey sandwich for dinner (after i work out)

just really doesnt appear to be almost 2k calories, but if you say it is I must be missing something.

Are you drinking water? you dont list your liquid intake

yeah i only drink water.. if i ever drink soda its usually diet but maybe ill drink one bottle of diet coke a week at most.

well i put mayo and cheese on the sandwich which adds few hundred calories extra to it.
but sometimes i eat rice and meat or maybe a bagel with cream cheese or bagel with egg and cheese... but i rarely go past 2000 calories.

No food burns fat in the face of a hypercaloric diet, you do realize this I hope.

at least 4-5 small meals space out at 2-3 hours intervals daily is crucial for your weight loss success too.

I'd recommend as many meals as you can comfortably fit. I wouldn't say eating every 2-3 hours is "crucial."

have you checked that calorie total to make sure you're not putting your body in starvation mode?

The body is constantly going into starvation mode while losing weight. It's an automatic physiological adaptation. It's not an event that happens once calories are below a certain threshold.

I've been getting a lot of flack lately for being 'mean' around the forum, so please realize I'm not trying to attack anyone here. Just stating the facts.

Nah, I know you're not being mean, I guess I was just thinking of when you arent getting near enuff calories and your body starts storing fat....maybe I used the wrong phrase?

The thing is 'not getting enough calories' and 'storing fat' don't go hand in hand.

If you aren't getting sufficient calories how can you gain fat. Fat is energy. Calories are energy. If calories are insufficient, how can fat increase. This is part of the whole thermodynamics thing you see me speak of from time to time on here.

The starvation mode has been blown way out or proportion in today's lingo to mean 'gain fat because calories are too low.' It's an inaccurate description of what the starvation response is in reality.

umm isnt there a difference in gaining fat and storing (which is what I said) fat because your metabolism slows down? (Im asking seriously because I have always read that when you dont get enuff calories your body slows its metobolism, thus storing the calories as fat?)

How so? To me, to get fat = to store fat.

because your metabolism slows down?

One of the adaptations to dieting (any diet, big or small calorie deficit) is a subsequent slowdown in metabolism. However, the metabolism never slows so much in that what was once a deficit becomes a surplus, follow me?

So if you are eating 1500 calories per day and your maintenance is 2500 calories. Sure, your maintenance is going to downregulate as your weight falls and some of these adaptations kick in. However, it's not going to fall to a point where this 1500 calorie intake is putting fat on without losing a lot of body weight.

See above.

ok...thats going to require rethinking 20 years worth of thinking on my part lol

Thanks for the explanation
