hard gainer..

lol. i never said hardgainers cant have results, but some people have a bigger difficulity handling training and gaining muscle. its a scientific fact.
A hardgainer can become good if he works hard, ofcource. But hardgainers often have to learn propper training and nutrition,ng schedule and gain muscle.

I guess it really depends what you define as a hardgainer, i say hardgainers = skinny fat ectomorphs. And there are ectomorphs out there.

are you guys saying all body types are the same, or are we just disagreeing with the "hardgainers = ectomorph"?

I think we are disagreeing on the definition of hardgainer.

Mine is -

Hardgainer = Maker of Excuses

I only say this because in 18 years it is only slackers and excuse makers who have told me they are hardgainers.

Ectomorph has nothing to do with results. In my experience and research different people need different training programs to have significant results. It doesn't matter what the body type is.

More than likely 2 people of he same type will need different workouts to get the same type of result.

It is hard for everyone who gets "good" results. Genetics or not. Arnold had it hard and so does the skinny kid in the gym. The ONLY difference between people who get great results and people who do not is attitude and drive.

So genetics have nothing to do with it?
I guess im just gonna have to respectfully disagree with that.

There is nothing to disagree with. There are literally 100's of examples of people who were "genetically disadvantaged" but still did great things.

The power of the mind will overcome, genetics, science, and common reason. Every Time.

Some people have higher metabolisms. My friend Josh is 5' 10" and 130 pounds, he can eat 2700 calories a day and not even workout, and burn it all off. I mean it's true, he went to his doctor and they determined that. That's the definition of a hard gainer. Yes, he could gain weight but it will be a lot harder than it would be for someone else.

Like Adumb just said, that sounds like me. I defitnetly don't slack at the gym.. its just that even if i ate 3000 calories a day most of it would just burn off due to my high metabolism.. my dad was like 140-150lbs in college and hes 6ft tall. If anything, I'm always in the gym saying jeeze these huge guys look like they aren't even breaking a swet.. while i on the otherhand are in a pool of it from my workout.. I am taking the advice though and trying to eat like there is no tomorrow..

yeah, i can sort of agree with that. Hell, i thought i was a "hard gainer" now id say im more average, i dont gain muscle as fast as some guys, but i dont gain as slow as many others either. But there is something called an ectomorph, thats what i call a hard gainer. And ofcource, if they put their mind into it, they will get great results, ive also seen lots of ectos gain alot of muscle and get really strong. So its no excuse to just say "ahh, im a hard gainer, thats why you are stronger than me" But you have to know your body type, know your weaknesses.

i agree that people use excuses like im a hardgainer or fat guys say my metabolism is slow etc.
i prefer to call them twitchers and relaxers.
if you notice some of your freinds who dont train eat what they want and never gain any weight, you think his metabolism is fast and thats what is burning all the fat.
but check them out for a day you will see they are twitchers ie they never stop they are on the go all day, they cant sit down and relax they have to be doing something.
and on the other hand the relaxers people who gain weight easily "like me" although they are not lazy, when they go home they are satisfied to just sit on the coach and chill .
thats my opinion anyway;)

That is not being a hardgainer. You know the solution to get your results. Eat more than 3000 calories.

The question is if you have the discipline to do that in order to get your results. Has nothing to do with having things being harder. It's just different.

Some people need to train 6 days per week 2 - 3 X per day to get the results they want. Some people respond better to higher volume and more reps, others to lower volume and lower reps. Some people need to eat more, some less.

It does not really matter what the hardest thing is. Everyone has something in their training and nutrition that is hard. The difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is that the successful people do the hard stuff.

Just so you know 3000 calories is not that much. I have been to where I had to eat over 7000 just to keep from losing weight.

Just do what it takes to get better!!

has he counted the calories? because it wouldnt be the first time someone tells me they eat 3000 + cals and when they actually count, they end up at something more like 1500.

Hardgainers do exist, I am one myself, it's very hard for me to gain weight. I have however managed to eat my skinny ass up to a BMI of 27 now!! It's taken a lot of hard work in the gym and strict dedication to eatting twice as much as I'm comfortable with but I have acheived a lot of what I set out to do already. (and thanks to being in the best shape of my life my life insurance premiums have gone up because apparently I'm overweight despite still looking a bit thin imo)

Being a hard gainer is simply a bit of a handycap, it's just another thing to work round but so long as you don't think you can't gain weight then you'll be fine.

Also, 3,000 calories is more like my lunch now than daily intake, eat more :)

And getting back to the OP, why did you cut out dumbells and start using Pec machines?

Your not usually going to see a gain in weight from muscle mass... even lifting correctly your lucky to gain 5-10 lb's of pure muscle mass a year, ( Not including steroids, anabolics, or HGH) The people saying they gained 10 lb's in a month is absurd for that is nearly waterweight, if you cut your portions eat 6-7 times a day its a diet it doesn't help your lifting program unless your adding alot more protein to the diet.

Do you take any protein suppliments? You should be taking about 1.5 g for every kg you weigh. (1 pound = 0.45359237 kg) Another factor is your genetics, I'm guessing your parents aren't very big * Muscular wise*?

I haven't cut dumbells out, i'm just noticing that adding more resistance machines to my routine seems to be working alot better then straight up using just dumbells alone..

Anyways, I don't bloody know how to eat more then 3000+ calories a day. Should i go and buy some weight gainer or something?!?! Thats the only way I could pump more calories into me I think..

I think that only really applies to experienced lifters, I've gained over 30lbs in just under a year and I still have low body fat so it must have mainly been muscle

I think weight gainer is pretty bad for your health. If you just start counting calories and pushing yourself to eat more all the time you'll find that your body does adapt and will accept more food after a month or two

Hehe, honestly though, your body can only physically gain around 1.5 to 2lbs maximum a month of muscle naturally. So yes, you gained some fat as well.

When I started bulking the thought of eating 6 meals a day was a huge tast, I never thought I could do it.

After a month I could eat 6-7 meals a day no problem.

Lol, Maybe it's all the dim spotlights I've installed above it :D

I know I've gained a little extra fat but not a lot, a gain of just over 2lbs per month is probably what I've acheived which would make about 25lbs of muscle and about 7lbs of fat (I was really skinny when i started so that isn't a problem at all) in around 11 months
