~~Hana's Diary~~

I'm Hana :) 19, 5'11 and from the UK and I currently weigh 194.6lb (BMI 27.1). I've always struggled with wanting to lose weight and everything seems to be so chaotic for me. I'll lose a bunch of weight and then end up gaining it all back again just as quickly and feel horrible. Really hoping that creating a diary and sharing my thoughts with people will help keep me focused!

I live with my parents at the moment so the level of control I have over what I get to eat is sometimes limited :( It's incredibly frustrating but I'm going to make it work. I'll probably record what I eat daily and any thoughts I have along with my changes in weight and/or BMI I guess. Never done anything like this before so I'll see how it goes!

First day felt pretty good :) Was eating with my parents this evening and I had no idea what it would be so I sort of held off on eating too many things before then.

Lunch:
Coffee with 1% milk and sweetener (34)

Dinner:
Lemon chicken burger (165) with bread (130), light mayonnaise (19) and avocado (59)
Grilled chicken breast (90)
Mixed leaf and carrot salad (23)

Hi Hana & welcome to the forum. Going shopping with your Dad was a good idea. Don't skip meals though as that will slow your metabolism right down. Have some lean protein at each meal, which will help fill you up. At what weight do you think you look & feel slim? Keeping a diary is a good idea. It doesn't have to be just about losing weight. It's a good supportive community & a nice place to be. Cheers, Cate.

Thankyou! It seems super friendly here, it seems like a nice atmosphere to share things with other people and keep focused :) I'm not sure what weight really. The last time I felt comfortable I was probably about 14/15 at just over 128lb/58kg, but I'm taller than I was back then. I guess I'll just aim towards that for now and see how I feel :)

I'm going to be shopping with my Dad today, hoping to get some tuna and chicken as well as some vegetables or beans or something! :)

It is a friendly place. I think you would be underweight at 58kg now that you are so tall. I think the recommended weight for your height would be somewhere around 60 - 80kg. Just aiming to be healthy & fit should get you to where you will be happy. Hope you have a good shop with your Dad, xoC

Hi Hana and another welcome to the forum! It can be hard to find out what a "normal" weight for your body type is when it´s the first time trying since having reached your full height. I´d say try to get to the upper limit of a healthy BMI for now and then see how you feel about your body.
Good luck on your journey!

Okay :) That makes sense, so the higher end would be about 80kg for me I'll aim for that and reassess then! I went shopping with my Dad today and we got some pretty good things :) Lots of vegetables and some chicken and tuna. I'm away on holiday the next week but I'm feeling pretty good about this week now :)

Breakfast:
Apple (55)
Tea with sweetener and 1% milk (19)

Lunch:
Tuna (127) with chilli hot sauce (3) and peas (24)

Dinner:
Seeded tortilla wrap (186) with grilled chicken (110) and lettuce, tomatoes, chillies (30) and light mayonnaise (58).
Werther's sweets (47)
Diet Coke (1)

I think having 80 as your 1st goal is a good idea. Well done on the healthy shop with your Dad & yay for feeling good about your week :D

Spent the whole day out today with my Dad making sure we got various things for next week :) We ended up having McDonald's for lunch which wasn't so great and I'm pretty sure I got a regular coke by accident :( It was a great day though and much more walking than I usually do just walking my dog each morning so yay :) Gonna weigh myself tomorrow too, first thing in the morning so I'm the lightest possible :D

Breakfast:
Strawberries (46)

Lunch:
McDonald's chicken nuggets happy meal (403)
Small coke (120)

Dinner:
Mixed leaf salad with sweetcorn, tomatoes, carrots and cucumber (34)
Grilled mushrooms (11)
Salad dressing (15)
Beef burger (211)

Considering you ended up at McD I think you did very well with 523 kcal. Quality time with your dad sounds like fun (slightly jealous here, I only see mine about three times a year).

Having a day out with your Dad would have been lovely. Maybe you & he could check out some other places to eat that are really healthy next time. He might like that. I think you did well to only have 523 cals at McD as well. Dangerous place.

Welcome to the forum! I love keeping a diary - keeps me on track and motivated to have people to share it with. :) And everyone is always super supportive and going through the same challenges.

Though out of curiosity, how many calories are you aiming for on an average day? 400-650 a day with 850 on an bad day seems very low.

Yeah, 523 calories is good for going to McDonald's. It's easy to get way more calories there.

Thanks! :) It was really fun and I was surprised at how many not so terrible (but still hardly good :p) options there were there :). My Dad is pretty fussy about what he eats but I'm definitely going to see what other places we could go to for next time :)

Thankyou! :) Yeah it's been so much fun sharing my diary and reading about everyone else's too!

I'm not too sure about the calories really. I enjoy tracking them but I don't have a target, just what feels right I guess? I definitely want to make sure that I'm eating enough fruits/vegetables and some protein/fibre/fat every day :). What I eat will probably vary a huge amount and I'm really worried about what it's going to look like next week whilst away, but probably not going to be able to get any accurate numbers :(

Don't worry about precision too much (unless you're preparing for a competition or something) but I agree that it's helpful to have some kind of an idea of how much you're eating vs what your body needs. A very rough estimate says that healthy, grown women need around 2000 kcal a day for maintenance and can lose weight no problem at around 1500. Ymmv of course, as it depends on height, weight, age, activity level and even previous crash dieting.

Thanks :) I'm just going to see how it goes and how I feel and make sure I'm eating all different things :)

Weighed myself today! 86.8kg and 26.5 BMI :)

Breakfast:
Strawberries (39).

Lunch:
Mixed leaf salad with tomatoes and cucumber (17)
Salad dressing (10)

Dinner:
Mushroom, red chilli and cheese pizza (491)

Chewing gum (13)
Raspberries (10)

Not much protein in there Hana. "Proteins are the building blocks of life. Every cell in the human body contains protein. The basic structure of protein is a chain of amino acids. You need protein in your diet to help your body repair cells and make new ones"

That's the way. Well done on the loss Hana. 26.5 BMI :D

Getting used to eating what feels right is definitely a good way to do it! Congrats on the loss!

If you're not sure about the calories, 1200 a day while on a diet is usually a great starting point. And I agree with Cate about the protein suggestion. Do you like flavoured protein powders? A protein smoothie for breakfast was always an easy (and really lazy ) way I used to get my daily 55 grams of protein. :D
