Hey everyone.

I have been doing abit of research into Gynecomastia and I was curious how do you know the diffrence?

Is there signs between Gynecomastia or just plain over weight man boobs?

I have been doing a paper on this for college and I just can't seem to find the signs to show which is which.

Anyone?

If gynecomastia you should be able to feel a small hardish lump underneath the nipple. This may be tender as well. Also breast development may be uneven whereas I presume 'just fat' would be deposited more evenly. Some people experience a slight discharge from male breasts though this is very rare in adults and is more often found in newborns with the condition. Hth :)

Would that be directly under or would it be under the "Normal" skin around the nipple?

Please answer cause I only have 3 days left til I gotta hand work in.

Well, under the skin around the nipple too... the lump would be bigger than the nipple itself. It's just located in the general area of the nipple. Hope that answers your question, I wasn't quite sure what you meant.

I don't know I'm no expert, I think its more likely that it would be in both but I guess it could just be in one. Someone somewhere probably has had that... dunno how common it would be. Female breast development can be a bit uneven, especially to start with so spose this could be too.

hehe I should put ur name on my work instead of mine lol.
Seems to be only thing I found out alone is theres no treatment other then surgery.
Thats correct yes?

My son has this. He is 5 feet 9 and weighs 128 lbs. They are harder than fat, and luckily they are shrinking now. On a thin person they are easier to see that it isn't fat. He got his 'boobs at the age of 12, and he is almost 17 now. His father still has them and he is 43, but he is also overweight so I'm not sure what it is now.

Apparently it can be caused by a Hormone balance.
You could take your son to Doctors to have a test of the cause.

Not to be too personal but how big are they for your son?
I know alot of people can mistake them for pecs on a slimmer person and your son is very slim at 128lbs.
He must have good genes from you ^.^!

Do you mind if I use this example in my paper?
I won't use names of course.
Will be just a example on how it isn't caused by overweight.

Oh I know, the doctor has already checked them.

Well they could never be mistaken for pecks, they are too pointy. When he was 12 they were much fattier, I'd say about a AA cup. Now they are hardly there, but if you touch, they are still hard nubs.

Yes he got the 'skinny' jeans from me. Of course my 'skinny' jeans left me a long time ago. :D

Go ahead and use him for your report.

Thank you.
I will make sure I include the forum name as support for my paper.
I think that people who are overweight tend to show the problem more and then when they lose weight they tend to become more hidden.
unless ya already skinny then there hidden anyway.

I assume you mean ya can feel they are there more then see it?
Thank you tho the the added information I will make sure it's put to the correct use.

Did the doctor not give him anything for it or any source of answers to why the problem is there?

^.^

No problem.
The doctor said that it would go away as he got older and more testosterone was produced.
