gym boredom!!

There's just something about sitting on a stationary bike, running on a treadmill and gliding on the eliptical that i can no longer handle, and it is very unfortunate... I'M BORED!! :banghead:

My start weight 2 years ago was 195 lbs. I spent about 5 months at the gym doing tons of cardio on these machines combined with some weight training to lose 40 lbs. Then i quit going to the gym . Probably not the best decision, but i was happy with the weight i lost. Well, just this last November i decided that i dont feel healthy. I've kept the weight off (with the exception of 5 lbs) but my confidence and health are both suffering because i had become pretty lazy. The only exercise i've been getting is at a dance club 2 nights a week. So i started going to the gym again, and lost that 5 lbs quickly. But i'm stuck at a plateau it seems, because my job changed from physical to office work and frankly, i am getting BORED with the gym. But i have been eating healthy and not consuming too many calories.

So i'm looking for some suggestions on something new for exercise... i just joined a fitness kickboxing group for 2 days a week and i'm pretty excited about that, and i might try some yoga in between. Summer is coming and i need ideas for something new that will give me the same or better benefits than at the gym. Maybe something different for each day of the week. One of the problems is that i get up for work at 4 am and get home at 7 pm. And not alot of fitness programs (like dancefitness, lets say) have classes starting after that. Thank you!

join a team - play soccer/hockey/basketball/field hockey/rugby - whatever...

find a specific event to train for - a triathlon, a 10K, whatever... generally having a goal in mind makes things notboring.

Like you said, taking those classes like kickboxing and yoga are a good alternative to just running on the treadmill. Since some of the classes may not be offered before or after you get off work, see if they're available on Saturday mornings (my gym offers a class or two), or if possible go on your lunch hour.

Or alternate back and forth between a cardio day and a weight-training day, focusing on a different body part on the weight-training day. Like Monday cardio, Tuesday weight-training, Wednesday kickboxing class, Thursday cardio...etc.

I seem to get bored when I'm on the treadmill the most. What keeps me going is making a new playlist on my iPod that is different from the workout one I listened to the day before. Or I don't use my iPod and change the channel on the TV to a show I like, preferably one that's an hour long...if Ellen were on all day, I'd never stop running.

Hope some of this helps. Good luck :)

I so KNOW the feeling !! .. used to be like that too, then I took the challenge to run brussels 20K (belgium) and yep made it a lot more motivating.
The fitness tools have a little border and I can read a magazine while running, that helps :p or listen to radio.
I tend to daydream and fall off though or run into the bar!
Or I started running outside now it's warm.. uphill, downhill and up, more tiring
Or join classes, they can be expensive and not at the time u want but there are some free ones. my sports club got free ones for students.
