Guess this is my first step..

Greetings. This is my first post and I'm joining this forum in hopes that putting my efforts in the spotlight will make my weight loss goals more realistic. I have such little self discipline in this area I figure it can't hurt anyhow. I hope I can get some recommendations from former strugglers.

I'm age 26, 6'2" tall, and 363lbs presently. Male by the way.

My problems are pretty easy to identify - I love food so I eat more than I should for my level of activity. I eat fast food nearly every meal. Lots of fried foods, greasy burgers and so on. 99% of what I drink is soda (diet at least) Definitely on the far end of the unhealthy eating scale.

As for profession, I am most easily described as an artist. Not whole lot of activity from that I'm afraid.

Anyway, I think I'm finally ready to loose this weight. I'm not entirely sure how I want to go about it yet.

I do have a couple questions though-
Can anyone recommend a good site or app that I can use to record my calories and exercise? I think something like that would help me stay on track.

And something I've been wondering about is - are there any weight loss drugs out there that aren't bogus? (IE placebo or snake oil)

Hi Samuel L, I am new to this forum also. Just like you, I have decided, maybe if I put my information out there I will be more motivated because I hate the thought of being seen as a quitter.

On the diet pills, take it from me, I have tried alot of them, from prescription strength to OTC, but all of them have the same problem, if you don't change the way you eat, and how you perceive food, you will put back on the weight, and the weigt will bring a few more pounds when you stop taking them.

My aunt is actually my motivation. I believe she has swung to far on the extreme side, but its simple, she lost about 100lbs in a year, with change in lifestyle choices (how she viewed food, what she used it for, and how much she intaked) and exercise. I have joined the gym where she goes and people come up to her startled and amazed, she looks like a different person, many don't believe her before picture is her until they see the mole on her face, that is the one thing that has not changed.

I guess what I am trying to say is leave the pills along, they are like putting a bandage on a gunshot wound, you are only treating the symptom not the disease. As for apps. just GOOGLE them, there are many of them, free of charge out there, some for you cellphone, or laptop, or desktop. They vary in design and features so you have to wade through them until you find the one best suited for you and your lifestyle.

good luck,
