Hello, my fellow forum memebers. If you hadn't already figured it out, I'm new here. My name is Jeremy, I'm 15, almost 16, years old, about 6'1" tall, and I weigh roughly 230 pounds. And I'm here in hopes of finding help in losing a little bit of weight.

Now, I've always been a heavier set person. Looking back at old pictures of me, you'll always see that'd I've been carrying extra weight for most of my life. Now, this isn't because I eat a lot. Because I don't. I think it's because most of the things I do eat and drink aren't the healthiest. And there's the fact that I get absolutely no routine exercise outside of my school gym class. And, I know this sounds and bit cliche, but I'm pretty sure I don't have a very good metabolism, either.

But hopefully that's about to change. Starting soon, this'll be my workout routine once a day every day(hopefully) until mid-Spring:

50 jumping jacks
25 presidential situps
15 bicycle situps
50 squats, while in the shower.

All of that in addition to my school gym class. I'll also be trying to cut back on sweets and soda. Now once the weather starts getting nice, I'm going to add 10 to 15 minutes of jogging onto that every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

My overall goal is to be around 200 pounds by the end of this year. I actually don't want to lose a whole lot of weight, becuase I actually like being 'larger,' just not this large.

So do you guys think I can accomplish my goal if I stick to my plans? Any advice is welcome.

And if anyone wants me to, I'll post pictures if helps you get a better insight. A word of warning: the pics will be off me in just my underwear or a pair of swim briefs. So if you don't want to see that, don't ask.

Welcome to the forum!

It all sounds like realistic goals, but a good thing to remember is that baby steps are okay too. If you find that this routine is hard, reevaluate your routine and lower the intensity. Just by cutting out the soda you'll see great results. It's nothing but empty calories!

Good luck :)

I don't think it's cliche to think a poor metabolism has something to do with your weight. I've felt that way before myself. There have been plenty of times where I seem to either gain or just maintain my weight even while I'm watching what I eat. But, as time went by, I realized it wasn't just my slow metabolism that was getting in the way...it was my level of activity. See, if you get active (jogging, cardio, weight lifting, etc) your metabolism improves. And, ever since I started pairing my diet with exercise, I've seen how the results have improved.

So, just make sure to get some sort of exercise a few times a week and watch what you eat.

And, you should start a journal in the "Weight Loss Diary" section. It's a good way to keep in touch with everybody here on the forum and keep us posted on your progress.

Good luck.

I would very much like to help you out. My name is George and I am a fitness and nutrition freak. For my whole life I have been active. For 25 years I have learned about nutrition, food, herbs, dieting, and everything in between.

Its great that you want to turn over a new leaf. One thing scares me... squats in the shower. Not a good place to slip and fall.

Now your routine. When I started trying to build muscle at 13 I could only do 2 pushups, 5 squats, and a crunch. If you can do your routine all at one time that is way beyond what I could do. If you can not do the routine you want break it up into segments.

10 jumping jacks
5 presidential situps
5 bicycle situps
10 squats

Repeat

I went from 2 pushups at 13 years of age to 100 in a minute when I was 25. As you can see this advance took years. Persistence is key.

Once you get your routine working I would rest for 10, 15, 30 minutes then do it again. NEVER give up.

Since you have always been larger you may have more strength that what you think. Also at 16 years old your body will adapt and change quickly. Do not set a limitation bar for yourself. Your metabolism may go nuts over night or it may take weeks.

If you need to know more let me know. I am here to help
