Hello everyone! I just joined a moment or two ago, so I figured I would introduce myself.
I'm an 18 year old girl, I just finished my first year of college, and Ill admit it, the "freshman 15" hit me like a ton of bricks. Its strange though, because Ive gained roughly 25-30 pounds since I left home, despite doing all those little things that are supposed to help keep extra weight off without affecting your daily life too dramatically (taking the stairs, not the elevator, walking to class, etc. And Ive tried to eat comparatively healthy, though the constant availability of delicious cake in the cafeteria has proven to be a challenge I'm not yet capable of resisting.)
I even picked up two martial arts; I do Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Capoeira 6 days a week, and can proudly hold my own against even the bigger men (once, I beat a guy with a 400lb bench press!!).
But still the pounds accumulated.
I'm currently at 160 at 5'3", and while I accept that a portion of that HAS to be muscle, its still jarring. And those skin-tight rashguards we have to wear in BJJ dont leave much to the imagination.
Anyway, Im starting a sort-of bootleg Weight-Watchers when I get home from vacation. My mother was in it and kept all the material and is mailing it to me. I chose Weight-Watchers because I know it works for me, and the points system really gives me a tangible idea of the impact of the food I'm eating. I mean, two slices of pizza doesn't seem like much until you see it in points, am I right?
So, I would like to lose 30lbs total, and at least 15 by the time school starts again in late August.
Ive tried working out and dieting before, by myself, but its just so hard to do when I don't have anyone to answer to but my mirror (besides, my boyfriend still fawns over my body, so no help there.) Which is the main reason I joined here. Ive looked around and from what I see, I'm sure I can get some much needed support and advice.
So, in a few weeks, I'm spending a month in Houston with my mother, and were basically going to bust our butts all month. Were going on Weight-Watchers together, and hitting the gym as often as possible (and were going to walk there, even better!) and I have seriously considered doing the intense first two weeks of South Beach to break my very strong carb/sugar addictions. I plan to lose 10 pounds that month, which hopefully will be the motivation I need to stick with my regime back in TN.
Right, I'm starting to ramble. I'm really looking forward to looking around the forum more and collecting all kinds of great motivation and help.
Thanks!
