Hello! my name is Michael and I am 19 years old.
I am a full time college student at SWIC (southwestern Illinois college) and I am working my way up to another school (yet to make up my mind)

When I was younger I was put on ritalin and I completely lost my appetite during he day. this caused me to really overeat at night. I went from being a skinny little 8 year year old to being chunky as all get out.

Over the next several years My weight has been up and down. I lost a ton of weight when My thyroid started acting up but after the Iodine treatment I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. now I have to take levothyroxine to keep my thyroid levels up.Some info about thyroid stuff and weight here :)

This really screws with my metabolism and ever since I have been gaining weight at a slow but steady pace.

I finally am coming up on the 300 pound mark and I am freaking out about it.

I told myself in my procrastination nature that If I got to that point i was going to change everything and get myself back on track and live healthier.

Unfortunately I am Over 18 and I no longer qualify for my old insurance program which makes seeing a nutritionist or doctor extremely hard due to the fact that I am really broke and all of my extra money goes to schooling.

Another thing that is really getting to me is the cost of eating healthier foods.

Price wise we have 6 people in the house and feeding everybody is very expensive. so we always go for what is cheapest. and most of the time it is the unhealthy stuff that is cheaper. So we end up buying that.

I am working on a way to create a diet for myself that I can afford.

maybe it is just me making more excuses, but this is a major hurdle that I need to fix.

I have also started a walking plan that I found on about.com. they give me daily walking assignments for me to complete. I find this very helpfull because I walk a lot on my commute to and from school and getting off a few stops early to walk some more is certainly feasible.

That is pretty much it. about me, If you want to know more just PM me or drop me an E-Mail :)

Some info about it here :)

Hello there. Its great that you are starting this process. I don't know a lot about Thyroid problems so I'm not any help with that, but I wanted to just say hello and wish you happy, healthy weight loss. The walking seems like the bestthing...it is so doable. Good luck and be sure to update on your progress.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I totally understand about your eating situation. Perhaps to begin with, you could start by cutting portion sizes. This will help with controlling your calorie consumption while you work on designing a diet that you can live with. Also, the walking is a great idea...easy to do and easy on the body when you're starting out. Good luck to you. :)

Unfortunately, I know how finances can affect food choices. I'm in a very similar situation, and it's just something that I have to deal with -- so I've been trying to work out even more. I hope it ends up working out for you. :)

Hey Michael, I'm from IL too and also around 300lbs! Good luck to you during this new chapter of your life.
