Greetings from England!

I think that some people have difficulty in disconnecting "weight" and "body shape" and "fatness"...

People are wise to use a tape measure in addition to the scales because sometimes there is a difference in body shape and not in weight.

We can get improvements in fatness and body shape while we see no difference in weight.

Especially if you are going to go high sodium - you need to anticipate that you might not see a reduction at the scales...

Going high sodium will not undo hard work - but it may impact the weight that you see when you get on the scales.

The hard work that you do will mean that you have a calorie deficit (by burning more calories - because of increased activity than you eat since you are being careful with your food) so you will reduce the fat that you carry. The exercise will mean that you build muscles too. There is also impact like the fact that muscle weighs heavier than fat.

All these benefits are not undone when you carry more water - but they can be masked.

Is a day off ok then??

Is a day off ok then??

Some people believe in having a cheat day to perk up their metabolism - so that their body does not get too used to having too little.

Some people cycle calories having some higher calorie days mixed with some lower calorie days to have the same effect - basically keeping the weekly average at the right level.

I personally prefer not to have "a day off" as I find it harder to get back on track...

Another thing is steak ok? It is in the insanity book just seems bad!

Lean steak can be a great source of protein.

We all need to have a reasonable amount of protein - combined with some fruit and lots of vegetables.

I once had a really interesting conversation with a butcher who was approved on the Slimming World plan - and allowed to advertise various things like sausages and burgers with the SW approved point value.

I was already aware that lean pork and lean beef were both classed as free on SW.

Anyway I noticed that there was a difference in point value for the pork things compared with the beef - with beef having a lower value...

I asked him why there was a difference...

He told me that beef is more separable - so you could cut away all the fat with beef - but would not be able to do that as effectively with pork - and some fat would remain irrespective of how carefully you did it.

As ever - be sure that you cook the meat healthily.

Is grilling it good?

Grilling is great.

I use fry light a lot if ever I need oil - e.g stir fry or to grease dish before baking.

Be careful as any sauces can add a heap of calories (and often a heap of sodium too)...

Most of us are not saints and we add things from time to time that we know are counter-productive - but at least we do so with our eyes wide open and knowing that we are being a bit naughty... There are sauces that I really love - but I only have them as an occasional treat because I know that they will send things high...

If you feel the need to have a little chocolate - have some - but know it to be a treat and not something to do too often. I know one lady who lost weight very successfully but made sure to allow herself a 2-finger kitkat every few days... she could be really rigid with her calories/nutrition/exercise all the rest of the time but felt that she needed to have a treat to look forward to. Having the treat coming kept her strong all the rest of the time.

I am currently eating too much sugar free butterscotch. It is working against my weight loss... None of us are saints...

I really am talking about 1 chocolate bar on a Saturday just one eating healthy every other meal and snack??

I would have it. :)

Daft things can impact weight loss - I am sick of my weight being stuck and seriously considering dropping the sugar free butterscotch. I eat a rediculously strict food plan otherwise and do a lot of exercise... Hardcore zumba (instructor is both a personal trainer and dance teacher who says that he doesnt know a way of making it more intense) 4 times per week, 6 salsa classes a week, aerobics, lots of walking, social salsa dancing.

A little bit of chocolate will not have the same impact as the crisps that you were talking about yesterday - they have tons of sodium.

Exactly my thoughts! I have been very very strict(even passing up muffins and a cooked breakfast at work) my job is very physical I am a road worker so digging at least half the day add to that insanity and football(current season finished) plus walking with my son sometimes 2-3 miles. I am very active! Plus im only eating 1600-1700 cals a day!I do have the resolve to have one chocolate bar and then not have one until 7 days later! So that's fine right?!

:) thanks
What do you have as a treat?

Sugar free butterscotch. :)
All the rest of my food is really strict.

I basically have Total 0% Greek yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, lunch and supper. It is high protein, high calcium and the fruit brings lots of fibre.
Then for my evening meal I have a proper meal with protein and lots of veg.
Last night for instance I had salmon with tomato, cucumber, celery, green pepper, beetroot.

Surely anything bad you eat if you work hard enough the next day you can burn it off??

I make sure that I do an absolute minimum of 15,000 steps (equivalent of 7.5 miles) a day even on my rest day (Sunday :) ) so many would say that I don't have any rest days...

It isnt quite a simple as that - since our bodies can get used to things - so you can end up having to do more exercise for the same effect...

Can you give me some more meal ideas please because I'm getting bored of rotating the same 2-3,meals a week! I usually have chicken breast with veg broccoli and carrots, or brown rice peas turkey breast! Or protein pizzas 1 whole grain muffin open it up very thin layer or tomato sauce then chicken on top(these are all out the insanity book) oh and steak and broccoli!

Edit I don't like fish

Its a shame that you don't like fish as I had fish the last 3 nights...

I have quite a lot of salmon as it was very effective when I did my big project.

Grilled pork loin steak and baked beans makes an absolutely yummy meal. Trim the fat off the pork loin steak and make sure that you get the low sugar low salt baked beans.

I sometimes make a curry with quorn mince and tinned tomates, tinned baked beans, kidney beans and hot curry powder. When I have it I do not have rice with it.

A stir fry can be a great choice if you are careful about which sauce to opt for. One of my favourites is Tesco pasta sauce (but I do not add pasta in to the meal). I tend to use chicken and throw in lots of onions, peppers, courgettes, mushrooms - or maybe just a large pack of prepared stir fry veg if I am lazy... Be sure to use fry light.

Tonight - we having a casserole that I have done in the slow cooker. I used venison, onions, carrots, leek, swede, cauliflower, broccoli, celery and a sauce that looked ok and like it might go ok with the veal. The veal was reduced so I got it and then had to decide what to do with it... The jury is out as to whether we will like it... I would happily do the same with any meat as long as it was lean.
