I'm 44 years old and have gained and lost hundreds of pounds on every diet there is.
But over the last two years, my weight has risen to its highest point ever.

Last week, I finally found the courage to say "Enough!" and I started on yet another diet and excercise program. I hope it will be the last one, ever- the one I can stay on for the rest of my life!!

I've lost 2.5 kg so far (that's about 6.5 lbs). So, that's a good start.

I find that it's hard, as I cook daily for my family of six. I also find it hard to fit in time to excercise on my own...I hope to find more activities that can include the kids.

Anyway, I look forward to getting to know the folks on this board. The stories here are so inspiring!

Hiya Rox,

Welcome.

I cook at home most of the time as my wife works afternoons. We have two small kids that are finicky eaters.

So...I learned to cook for myself seperately from them. They get their nuggets and fries and I get a salad and chicken breast. They get a diet pop and I get water. They get icecream desert, I get peanut butter on a ricecake.

And no more eating their leftovers. (Thats tough cause I always seen it as wasting food) Now it goes in the garbage (but theres usually alot less cause I learned to feed them when they are hungry, not when I thought they were hungry at normal dinner times.)

I also cook my foods in advance...like chicken breasts or turkey burgers. I make sure I plan ahead so that theres always one meal for me in the fridge.....this lessons the temptation to grab something quick at a McD's or BK.

And exercise isn't necessary...but it helps. Take the kids to a park and play with them, walk with them.

Sorry if I rambled on. Again, welcome. Hope you keep us up on your progress! :)

Welcome Rox! You are not alone, many of us here have tried a multitude of diets and are back at square one. It would have been interesting to know just how many lbs I have lost and gained over my life time. I can't even begin to count! I wish you well on your journey!

Flumes, you hit the nail on the head when you said you started eating when you were hungry, not when it was suppose to be time to eat! Amazing the most simple things that we have to retrain ourselves to do.
