I'm not sure if this is the right section of the forum to post this topic...but i was wondering if green tea 'really' have an affect on weight loss?

I'm asking this question because i have been rather stuck/stable at the same weight for a couple of months now... and only a couple of days ago i started adding green tea to my diet (3 times daily- morning, lunch & dinner)... and i have started loosing pounds. It could be a mere coincidence but i am just curious of what you guys feel about green tea and weight loss.

Toodles! :)

While extensive research has been performed on green tea and weight loss, the jury is still out on this. However, evidence does suggest green tea may boost metabolism and burn fat. Substances known as catechins are thought to be responsible for these effects.

Catechins belong to a class of plant chemicals known as polyphenols, which are potent antioxidants. Various catechins are found in green tea, but the most active is epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG). Catechins are thought to be responsible for thermogenesis, which is the production of heat within the body. This heat production is related to energy expenditure or calorie "burn" by using fat stores to stoke the fire. EGCG is thought to inhibit certain enzymes, which are responsible for degrading norepinephrine in the brain. By inhibiting this enzyme, norephinephrine action is prolonged, leading to extended action of thermogenesis.

Green tea is loaded with antioxidants and has other health benefits (like promoting a healthy mouth), so I say keep drinking it!

Green tea is good for many reason but if you are taking it with the goal to lose weight..you might be disappointed. think of it as good but not magic

Yeah i dont know does it actually make you lose weight, but it is very healthy for you and has hardly any calories. So i would defo recommend drinking it!! Also i know someone that has 3 cups a day and her skin is amazing!xx

wow! good to know

may it's also because of what you eat too?

i also drinking green tea and it helps me sweat more

so i guess that's what they say about having a faster metabolism?

Green tea contains a lot of good antioxidants, almost 40 to be exact. I heard that Oolong tea has 40 per cent as many antioxidants as green tea tho. I am not sure its true.

Green tea is also non acidic which is good for the pH balance in your body. If you want to lose weight stick to drinking either water or green tea.

i see... thanks for the information! :)

I tried green tea for about three months. For me, it didn't seem to affect weight loss one way or another. Any weight loss benefit it had was probably overpowered by the other things I was doing (or not doing). I did enjoy it though...
