Hi, I am grandmabecky. I am 56 and according to my doctor, morbidly obese. I have been this way for 25years or so. I want to loose weight and get in some type of shape so bad. We like to travel and I can't walk at all. I see most of the sights from the car. I have been dieting and riding a stationary bike for three months now and have only lost 14 pounds. I have tried counting calories and am now on day 8 of the atkins. I hve not lost a pound on it and I really am sticking to it, but am now stuck and want to do things healthily. I have a bad knee and even a treadmill gets to me, and sometimes it gives out just walking at work but I can not just sit and give up. i know it is a little late in life to get started but would love to do it. My husband is slightly overweight but is not interested at all in hellping me out. He eats what he wants so I fix two meals a night.
Can anyone help me out hear? I have just heard I must lift weights but I cnnot afford a gym and must use what I have here at hand. I understand my metabolism is almost at a stand still but I must try. I really would like to loose 17 pounds by June 4 because that will put me at a goal I have been trying to reach for 20 years.
I would love to hear from any and everyone with advice. My address is
grandmabeckyw@gmail.com
Thank you all in advance

Welcome to the forums! You have come to the right place if you are looking for motivation and inspiration. There is also alot of information to be found.
As far as your age goes, people can be healthy or unhealthy at anyage, so don't worry about that at all! Get healthy and go for it- I assume by your log in you're a grandma . . and therefore likely want to spend time with your grandkids. Being healthy is the best thing you can do for yourself AND for them.
I had mixed results personally with Atkins. I got results, but once I stopped . .the weight crept back on. But more importantly, while I was doing it, I didnt feel healthy. Others I'm sure have had different results tho.
I would check with your doctor about the best approach for you. The general rule as I understand it is, you have to burn more calories than you take in (keeping in mind your BMR). You certainly don't want to injure yourself exercising, so again, check with the dr.

Good luck!
