Got some weight to lose, want to join military, whats the best way? Please Help!

OK so here is my deal. I'm male 5'9" currently i'm at 236 lbs. I started my diet/ workout weighing 250lbs. and its been about 6 weeks now i think, and this past week i might have lost a pound. and so i pretty much want to know what i should be doing to lose the most weight every week. i go to the gym and do cardio for about 90 min. 6 days a week. i usually use the elliptical machine or treadmill (i try not to do the treadmill too much cause i'm still pretty heavy and i don't want to screw up my joints) . i want to join the military so i have to weigh atleast 180 lbs. i'm open to any suggestions. thanks!!!!

Weight loss comes from calorie balance, exercise is just a tool for assistance.

What is your current calorie intake? If you don't know then start taking a log of everything you consume. Sites like are free to join and allow you to measure your daily calorie intake

I would consider doing something that involved all around fitness since the military training will be geared to that end (think obstacle course). A PAR course would be good, though they barely exist anymore. They are/were, workout station placed along a run in parks. You can improvise by running and mixing in various exercises during the run like push ups, sit ups, pull ups on trees or playground equipment etc.

For something more structured I think triathlon training would be good because the three disciplines require a lot muscle used in many ways plus you get kick butt cardio.

If you want to stick to the gym environment, definitely include running, before, during and/or after, mix up your cardio and use olympic or power lift techniques (because they involve a lot of supporting muscles unlike bodybuilding training which isolates them.

Good luck

Being a personal trainer and being in the military also remember you have to pass a physical fitness test. Find your resting heart rate and start doing cardio for 30-45 min a day at 50-75% abve your resting heart rate. And learn what your PT test consist of and use the other 45min to work on the muscle groups that are needed to pass the PT test. If its pushups, sit ups then focus on chest and abdominal muscle or if its pull ups and situps, then back and abs. Your also gonna wanna find your Total Daily Need of calories, basically how many calories a day you need to live. Your a hefty guy so I would guess if you went to a 2000 calorie diet you'd see a nice weight loss. So click off of here and google:
