Hi,

Last year I was skinny and people was calling me skinny so I deceided to gain few pounds. I went to my local gym and bought 1kg protein powder to gain weight, I think the powder was to gain muscle and weight. So at first I started going to gym and started using the powder but most of the time I was not in gym due to my exams, revision and all that. Some how this year I got alot of fat around my stomach area and my body isnt that big (not fat, im slim). I really look weired with a fat stomach and small body, and this is really stressing me up! I was thinking to do laser fat removal cause I dont wanna go summer holidays with fat belly! Is there any other options to lose fat rather than the ilipo fat removal thing?

p.s im 22 btw. i probably weigh around 70kg

I'm assuming you stopped using the protein powder, but if you didn't then that is probably a major cause to why the weight creeped up on you.

If you want to lose fat then all you really have to do is count your calories and eat an amount less than what your body should burn. A -500 calorie deficit will equate to .5kg loss per week. Some weeks you might gain, some you might not lose any, but if you stayed consistent then you will lose the weight. Never go under 1000 calories or your metabolism might slow down and you aren't going to burn any fat.

To lose the fat specifically from your stomach then doing plenty of crunches will aid in the process. I don't think it will specifically burn fat from your stomach, but will build a little muscle there and give you a little more form which should improve your figure a little.

I'm not sure if you start losing weight if it will be mostly from your stomach or will be evenly proportional.

Laser is a little bit of a desperate move for when you just cant lose that fat in a specific area. It's not healthy and the benefits are primarily cosmetic. It's not like full blown suction for people who are morbidly obese, it's like a touch up. It's an option if you're in a hurry to get rid of your tummy fat or it just wont leave, but I personally would never do it.

I would give exercise & diet an honest go for maybe two months and if there is literally 0 change in your stomach then laser might be an option.

Thanks for replying. I want to add one thing, in my protein drink it states "converts to triglycerides" which I thought was good to build muscle then after researching (after 4weeks of buying it, I know its too late now) its says Triglycerides is fat cells, is that true? or is triglycerides in weight gaining drinks are for building muscle?

If you gained the weight quickly, its likely to hover around your midrift- this is because your body finds it easiest to store excess calories there. As time goes by your hormones will help your body redistribute this weight around your body and you will find its more equally deposited.

It can take time though.

I'd say keep up basic exercise and eating well- not refined stuf which gived you energy sparks and has your body go back and forth into "starvation mode" as this can leave it wanting to store excess calories instead of using them and if your body tends to store stuff around your waist...
Eat little and often, drink enough water and rest plenty as well as the exercise and keep a diary, things will change but slowly. It can help to keep a diary to see how things will change.

Lazer is a bit pricey and I have to say I didn't know you could lazer your belly- I thought lazer was for hair removal. Lipo would be the other option but OMG it can go SO wrong that you'd wish you'd never even considered it. And it leaves scars. Try the healthy option first. Unless your loaded (in which case get a personal trainer- you'll be bac to normal in no time!) your young, the last thing you want is a huge loan over your head giving you bad credit and adding to your worries. (And worrying has your body produce more of the hormone cortisol which in turn can make your body store more fat around your stomach) so try hard to relax - easier said then done I know, and try to plan things out. It will get better if you work on it.

You can only build muscle by working the muscle - i.e. exercising and lifting weights.

Protein powder doesn't build muscle and if you ate protein powder and didn't continue workingout, then the excess calories will turn to fat. It's pretty much that simple.

If you want to lose weight, then stop eating too many calories and start working out again. It's also that simple. :)

Thanks for the help. Btw the fat im gaining is soft new fat, which i guess should be easier to burn by doing cardio like running right?

Fat is fat, new or old or whatever. The only way you burn fat is by consuming fewer calories than you burn. Cutting back on what you're eating and adding in exercise are both ways to put yourself in a calorie deficit. But running alone isn't going to burn fat if you eat more than you burn.
