Goodbye Cigarettes; Hello Fat

Hi all!

I came to this system in hopes of gaining inspiration for my weight gain problem (as did everyone, I suppose). 13 1/2 months ago I put down my last cigarette and picked up food.. everytime I would have normally smoke, I ate- almost a reward system.

Originally, I told myself that I would rather be heavier for awhile than to have to wear an oxygen mask. When my doc gave me a green flag for my health I decided it was time to quit - but now, 60 lbs heavier I am worried. At 50 I don't want to become diabetic or the like- but it is so much harder to lose than when I was 20+.

I read someone's post here that he had been unemployed for a while - that is my situation also and along with my weight gain it can be so depressing. If anyone has any suggestions, it would be so appreciated!!

Also, I would love to hear from anyone else that has gained weight the same way I did and how they coped.

Hoping to get to know all of you,
Wendy

Welcome Wendy

Hi all!

Hey Wendy,
Glad you joined! This is a great place for motivation. The people with real substantial weight loss have done it through consistent exercise and eating healthy balanced meals and reasonable portions. Everyone is different, but that seems to be the main theme. I myself am re-learning how to eat and how to break the addiction of unhealthy habits. In the last 4 years I gained about 100 pounds and am slowly but surely seeing it melt away. Walking and swimming are great exercises for me because I enjoy them and it's something that I can stick to. Find something active that you enjoy (or can tolerate) and stick with that. Something else that is helpful is starting a food diary or journal. Look in the Diary Forum and if you feel comfortable, start one. You'll be able to actually SEE what you need to work on and what your accomplishments are. Well, hope that helps! See you around!!
