Good eats... at least, they once were.

Hey!
I'm Annie. I'm 16 years old (17 in june) and this is my new weight loss diary.
I have schizoaffective disorder, which includes bipolar disorder and hallucination. I take 5 different medications, and currently it is very under control. I have finally reached a stage in my life where I can focus on ME.
Since the end of elementary school I have always been a little overweight, however, since they started experimenting with my medication, my weight has ballooned to around 235. I lost 5 pounds by switching regular soda with diet, but now I have realized that I have to do more for myself. I am at risk for type 2 diabetes, and I seriously need to change that.

It's only day 3 and I haven't achieved any results, but I know I have to keep pushing to keep my willpower up so I can eventually reach my goal: having a healthy BMI and finally fitting back in to a size medium.

I have been exercising 1-2 hours a day and watching what I eat, but sometimes I cave in and eat those extra fishsticks and (homeade) mashed potatoes like I did today. But I just ended up working harder, walking on the treadmill for 2 hours. (I walked an hour at a time. I walked an hour before dinner which I would have been satisfied with, but then I loaded up on dinner and decided that I should walk off a few extra calories.)

Does any one have any advice for me? I really don't like counting calories, so I have tried to stay away from that. It's entirely too complicated for me, and takes up wayyy too much time during the day.

I really hope to get some support on my weight loss journey.
:)

Hey Annie,

Welcome to WLF. I think you'll get tons of help here.

First off, I hope that you aren't expecting to see results right away? Only because I dont want you to get dissappointed and give up. As for me, it took me a couple of months of eating right / exercising before the scale gods decided to lower my number. ^_^

Oh what I wanted to ask was, with all the medications you are taking for your disorder, do you know if it will take you longer to begin seeing results?

Anyway, I'm Veronica and in that over 200+ thread that Natalie posted the link too in your introduction thread. I look forward to reading more in your diary and good luck!

Veronica.

Hey Annie!

Hey Annie!
Looks like you are off to a good start. Take your time. One day at a time, One meal at a time. But Keep trecking. It will take time to see results, losing this type of medication weight takes time. This medication makes you appetite bigger, thats why you gain weight and thats why I did.

Its awesome your disorder is under control..
I personally have bipolar disorder. I used to have hallucinations, but don't anymore. If I miss my meds I am a tyrant lol like last night lol

But in all in all, it will take a longer amount of time than someone with no meds to lose weight... but don't give up.. I shall be here for you as others will. Vernoica is an awesome individual as all the people in the 200+ crowd club are. You should check us out. We are mostly girls, except for Kevi lol

but you have a good day and I hope its bright and beautiful

best wishes

hey there!
I know, I'm really not expecting much result this early in, but I was wondering when I should start expecting some weight loss.
I talked to my therapist today and she agrees that in order to lose weight, I can't deprive myself of the food I love. Just better portions, that's all.
I had a grilled chicken sub with fries for dinner. I would usually have a steak and cheese. I walked an hour on the treadmill earlier, 2 and a half miles. I didn't used to walk at all, but yesterday I walked 5 miles. I feel so good about myself when I finish walking, but sometimes it's hard to get the motivation up to just get up off my lazy arse and go.
I really would like it if I could get off my meds completely, but I know right now that that's not possible. I just recently decreased my risperdal to 3 mg from 4 mg, and I'm very happy with the result. I haven't needed the extra mg since I got off of it. I still carry it around because that's what everybody tells me to do, but I feel confident without it.
I've been doing my best, but I have slipped up a couple of times. I had 14 fishsticks and two helpings of homeade mashed potatoes. But then I walked two hours on the treadmill, and that made me fell better.
I had a small fry from McDonald's (they weren't even that good, but I ate them all anyway. :p) and I had fries at dinner, so I didn't do that great today. I might walk another hour on the treadmill to make me feel better about my choices.
I weighed in at 228.1 lbs this morning. ONE WHOLE POUND!! haha... I'll take what I can get.
Anyway, do you guys have any techniques for resisting those hot greasy foods? That's where I'm weak. That and just sitting around being bored, I end up eating even when I'm not hungry. Then I feel crappy about it later. I guess I have to break that habit like I stopped drinking regular soda. Is there anything I can replace it with? Maybe get some green beans and blanch them and eat them cold throughout the week? I like green beans.
Thanks you guys for supporting me! :) It feels great to know that there's someone to hold me accountable.

<3

Actually, I don't know. I should probably ask my psychiatrist.
I just hope that I see a result before I get frustrated and give up and then feel crummy about it. I hope that doesn't happen, I've been trying to keep my willpower up, but I'm new at this whole healthy thing.

:p

Hiya:)

Well done for taking the 1st step to losing weight.

I've only been a member for 2 weeks but I can honestly say that I am really really enjoying my weight loss rather than thinking "what a chore" - and this is all down to the support and encouragement I'm getting from the forum!

If you don't like counting calories try - you enter in what food you ate and it counts the calories for you!

oh joy!

haha... FitDay is pretty damn cool.
Seems like I should be losing weight by the calories I take in.
:)
Thanks karmann!:hurray:

:)

Yay.
I can't go on the treadmill tonight because I was arguing with myself about it too long and now it's almost bedtime. :banghead:

Anywho, weekend coming. First one! Jeeze I hope I don't mess this whole thing up.

:)
Night guys!

I weighed in this morning at 226.0 pounds!
Wow!
That's encouraging. I also noticed that my clothing weighs 3.8 pounds. haha... underwear from now on. But that wasn't the source of my weight loss. I weigh in every morning before I get a shower. :D I'm so proud!

I've been walking at least 2 and a half miles a day, but I have kept splurging. Sometimes I forget that I'm watching what I eat, you know? It's been so long since I've tried anything like this, and I forget.
I had 2 biscuits at dinner. I had and 8 piece nugget and fries at chick-fil-a for lunch.
I did however have diet pepsi at dinner and a diet lemonade at lunch.
I don't know.
I don't want to give up ALL the pleasures in life.
:(
We'll see how it goes with tomorrow's weigh in.
I walked 2.58 miles and burned off 259 calories. :)
So maybe it'll be okay.
peace. I'm off to do nothing while my parents are gone.
:D

We started around the same time and you're doing great!! I don't think I"ve lost a single pound yet....

I know what you mean about not wanting to give up the pleasures in life. The other day I ate Chick Fil A for lunch too. The difference is before I would have eaten another 1000 calorie fast food dinner too haha AND a dessert. WHen I ate it, I made sure to get a healthy dinner to balance it all out

Keep up the exercise! You're doing better than me on the cardio for sure!

haha thanks purple!
I don't know what I'll do for dessert... dried apricots maybe?
:)

Oh yeah, turns out I have no life, so I'll be lurking!

YAY!

I had 1 and a half pancakes and half a slice of country ham.
A splurge, I know, but damn was it tasty.
However, I am very proud of myself for the rest of the day. Today was my cousin's graduation, then we went to his house. Strawberries, fresh from the garden. They are SO much better than store-bought. A slice of angel food cake. No whipped cream OR cool-whip. Then, we went to McDonalds. I had a premium grilled chicken sandwich (plain), a fruit and walnut salad (I don't like the candied walnuts, but I did have a bit of the low-fat vanilla yogurt to dip the fruit in.) I had like maybe 10 fries, but I resisted eating the whole order and drank my unsweetened iced tea instead. I also resisted a medium chocolate milkshake, and had another slice of angel food cake.

By the way, I just figured out (thanks to fitday) that 2 slices of angel food cake has 286 calories. My mom said it was less calories than that. Way to go mom. :(

Okay... I didn't exercise today. I had the chance, and I blew it off.
:'( sometimes I really just forget what I'm fighting for.

Any tips?

"Slice" is a subjective term. Unless you know the dimensions/weight of the slice, you don't kow if mom was right or wrong. :)

one slice was 1/12 of a 10" cake.
That's the amount of calories fitday said it was.
:/
I had doritos today. 11 chips. Around 150 calories.
Oh well. :)
I walked 2.6 miles today, and burned off around 260 calories.
The one thing fitday doesn't do, however, is allow you to customize the number of calories burned. :(
Anywho, the Bird's Eye Specially Seasoned Vegetables in asian seasoning are da bomb.
I just steamed the bag, took out 1/2 cup, and stuck the rest in the fridge.
Yum.

Well, I must be going. I have to figure out what to have for dinner tonight (they're having sloppy joes. Blech.) and work on my scholarship application. I got my GED. I couldn't go to school because of how crippling my disorder was, so I got into a program where I could get stay in school while I got my GED. Now I'm all graduated and I have a 4.0 GPA in college. :D

Byes :)

Congrats on the pounds lost Lily...and also sounds like your doing ok with the eating ...

I know what you mean about fighting with yourself to exercise. I just about have that most days. But now I have Derek and I am making him go walking with me. I have to walk to Hannafords tomorrow and buy groceries in the afternoon, thats a few miles away, back and forth, total about six miles, not bad. And I plan to get a big amount of groceries ... so the bag carrying should be interesting, including a Gallon of milk, which I think I will make him carry!!! lmao ... well he is my man and he can do it ... well I can do it too, but they are so Akward to carry, and three to four miles back, I will let the man do that work .. I plan to buy Zero Cola ... a splurge...

Sometimes half splurges ok, but try to keep track of your food and compare to your caloric deficit and figure out how many calories you are putting on ...

keep trecking hun!
Congrats on walking so much!
and I know you can do it!

and the reason you might be eating and forgetting, is because your meds are appetite increasers, so I used to just eat and not know why. I felt hungry all the time ...

good on you for doing this!
You are making a very important step into a healthier you! and a long life ..

love yas

oh man don't I know it. I think I also just get bored and decide to eat whatever I find just to fill the time.

I had salmon pasta salad for dinner. (this consists of a half packet of salmon (the small packet) a cup and a half of mini bowtie pasta, and a tablespoon of lite caesar dressing)

It was oh so good...

I don't know how to burn that many calories in one day... It seems impossible. How do you do it?

:willy_nilly:

night folks!!:seeya:

ARGHH!!!!!!!!!! I kind of fell off the bandwagon today.
I didn't exercise because I had to complete a scholarship application (which I still haven't quite finished yet) and I had to get two letters of endorsement (by Friday)
I went grocery shopping and then (of course) had dinner at chick-fil-a.
I did have a diet lemonade instead of regular lemonade... and a sugar free jello.
Not as bad as I would have thought.
My mom did compliment me and said that you can tell I'm losing weight. I'm so happy.

Meh. Anyway... I couldn't get up the willpower to walk today. I feel so crappy about it.
:(
Anyone have any tips for strengthening will power?
I could sure use some help.

Hiya:)

You are doing so so well!!

EVERYONE falls off the bandwagon at some point, only difference this time is that you'll climb straight back on and stay on it ;)

You know you can do it.

Just do what I do - when I go to eat something crappy like a chocolate bar or crisps I just think "what good is this gonna do? NONE! I will feel full for like, 5 minutes, then the nice taste in my mouth will wear off and I'll just have eaten 250 empty cals. Why not replace it with something that will do me good AND taste nice?" Orrrrrr just think of how amazing you're gonna look at 150 instead of 226, and that can be the motivation.

If you HAVE to have junk food then don't deny yourself it, just try having it just once a week on a Friday or Saturday as a reward for doing so well the rest of the week.

Just some ideas and I am by no means an expert, it's just what works for me:)
