Going for a 6-pack, but I'm sitting 10 hrs/day

I've been working on a 6 pack for about 3 weeks now using a mix of different types of crunches and situps, plus additional workout on an ab machine. I'm also cutting down the fat intake.

So far, I can see some progress and I'm confident that as long as I maintain the discipline of following the routine every day, I'll get somewhere.

However, here's my main concern: I'm a business executive and am kind of a workaholic I spend 10-12 hrs/day sitting in my office during the weekdays, and another 4-6 hrs/day in my home office during the weekends. Nothing can help you develop a big belly better than sitting down all day. Sometimes when I work at my home office for 6 continous hours, with my shirt off, when I stand off I can see a very defined line accross my mid-torso. Everytime I can't help but feel that there must be something I can do to minimize the negative effect of my sitting down all day.

Here's my question: is there a specific time when I should do my ab workout so I get the most of it, and so the workout is not minimized by my sitting down all day? Should I do my workout right before I go to bed so my ab muscles relax while I'm laying flat on my bed? Or should I divide my workout to 2-3 times a day, and interrupt the continous sitting down time? Should I wear an ab-belt or something to the office?

By the way, I'm 26, 5'7", about 160 lbs and a 32 1/2 waist. I don't have a noticeable belly nor anything, but it is about an inch and a half wider than a year ago, which is why I decided to start going for a six pack.

Also, I've considered using one of those electric shock ab workout things to use in my free time (ie while reading, watching tv, etc.). Do they help or are they a waste of time?

Disclaimer: I'm a complete dummy when it comes to working out, so if I said anything stupid above, please correct me. Thanks.

Ab belts are total bull, all they do is heat you up and make you lose water weight, and around that area, it dehydrates it making the abs show a little more, but once your hydrated it goes back to the way it was.

I would say do your ab workouts in one go, but only 2-3 times a week. I personally do my ab workouts 6 to even 1 hr before bed but im not sure if that has any effect on results.

If you sit an a chair all day, remember to strech and train your back and side just as much or more than your abs. Or you'll get muscle imbalence and get a bad back. You'll find that in a few months of training you'll have much better posture and you'll be much more comfortable.

Make sure your getting up as offen as possable. If your on your computer then just stand up then sit back down afetr every sentence you type, This is great for your whole body+will acctually help with burning cals.

If your reading from sheets of paper, stand up and walk around. Not only will this help your joints and blood flow, you'll be improving your balence and mental focus.

If I were the boss I'd say, "Hey...are you on drugs? Sit your ass down!" Then he'd say, "But boss, I'm trying to burn calories!"

Then I'd say, "Then you're fired! Homeless people are skinny...plus they like, walk around all the time. See ya!"

He would probably be mad for a while, but when he's sleepin on that sidewalk 50 lbs lighter, he'll thank me.

reseach shows taht office workers who masterbate whilein work 2-3 times a day will burn over 100-200 calories
no bull****

Thanks AndyK.
If my boss fired me for standing up, I'd club him with a 100lb dumbell.
I dont think I'd be sacked for walking around, Im an engineer.

office routine

Forget about those eletric ab belts, it's a bunch of cr@#p!. If you have to spend a lot of time on the phone at work, try getting one of those wireless headphone/mic setup that connects directly to your phone. This way you can stretch often thru-out the day.

lveras, If you feel you need to be more workout get some fitness books, magazines, etc savvy..look into yoga, other forms of fitness. Besides from lessing fat intake :D you have to sweat....remove toxins..refresh your body and spirit...not just stretch here and there...now and then. Cramming fitness into an already busy schedule and workaholic are not condusive or fair to proper fitness. On the other hand you say you have spare time for sedentary activities; reading, watching tv. You can't get out of the chair/computer, and resorting to spot reduction abs belt at 26 years old while in decent enough shape. It boils down to making a more sincere heathwise-fitness..total body/mind commitment. Only you can make the difference in the long run ;).
