going away

I am eighteen years old and have been training / eating very clean since early February. On the 15th, however, I will be going to be a counselor at a camp for kids with down syndrome for a little bit over a week. The campers all love junk food and hate anything healthy (it's their only time away from their parents all year)- the camp tries to facilitate this in the "healthiest" way possible, but all meals are eaten at the cafeteria of the college where the camp is. I plan on bringing some of my own food to stock the dorm refrigerator, but I am wondering how I could go about working out while there. Keep in mind, I don't have much time as the kids are very high maintenance and I am a head counselor (in charge of other of counselors and their campers, too).

I think I plan on doing push ups (few sets of 50), some simple ab exercises, pull ups (few sets of 10 or 15), and running (a little bit over a mile). Are there any bodyweight exercises that I should add? Keep in mind that I only have a little bit more than an hour to myself everyday. Also, will it totally screw up my progress if I have some deserts with the kids? I don't want to be a dud. Thanks a lot.

Hey man. Sounds like you've got a good plan going.

But you say you're going to be gone for a little over a week? A week off from training is not devastating to say the least. In fact, it's proven effective to take time off from training every couple of months or so. Gives your body a chance to completely refresh itself. However, if you're feeling anxious from not working out (I do sometimes) or just want to stay active, you can add dips, push ups between two chairs, and even lifting milk cartons filled with water to your arsenal of exercises.

You should focus more on eating healthy while you're there but have dessert a couple of times :) . By all means, don't let yourself go for a week. That would set you back. But don't sweat not training for a week. It does a body good.
