Goal: lose 30 pounds in three months... achievable?

Hello. I'm not exactly new to the forum - been lurking for several months now trying to pick up hints and tips as I toyed with the idea of toning up. I've finally built up the courage to post, as I thought actively taking part in the community might help motivate me.

I am almost 5'7" and used to weigh around 10 stone (140 lb). Although this wasn't necessarily my optimum weight I was happy enough with it, and the modicum of exercise that let me get by.

Two weeks ago I weighed myself. Shocking! Without knowing it I'd put on over a stone. I thought to myself, what happened?!

I know what happened: typically, pizza, Chinese takeaways, hormonal birth control, and far too many bus trips over a distance I could easily walk.

I now weigh 11 stone 8 lb (162 lb) and my aim is to lose weight and tone up. Ideally I'd like to be somewhere around 130 lb, but if increasing my muscle tone means I'll have to endure a few more pounds than I'd like, so be it!

Currently I'm jogging about 1.2 miles a day, six days a week, and am attempting to tone up my arms through incorrect use of this rubbery ladies rowing machine thingy. Hoping to increase the mileage to 1.9 miles, which I have managed through a combination of walking/jogging these past two days. Any tips and helpful advice would be much appreciated!

It's nice to meet you all and I look forward to contributing to the community!

hi, i go jogging/walking 2 miles a day and weight 19 stone, i hae joined the gym today but in the past 2 weeks i lost 5 pound, so in a month that would be 10lbs so yes it is achieve able :) hope u do well

30 lbs in 3 months is definitely achievable .. IF you control what you eat. Exercise is great, but the key to weight loss is food. Diet - in the holistic sense of what you eat, as opposed to "going on a".

You need to make sure you're controlling your calories, and getting a good balance of nutrients - protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats.

I'd suggest registering for a free account on or and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

Good luck to you.
