Giving this a shot

Hello forum! I just joined after reading through (or snooping) at some of the discussions within these forums, and I think it would do me some good to take in some advice from you. :)

My name is Sarah, I'm a 24 year old student, weighing a whopping 115 pounds (just stay with me here) I'm 5 feet and two and a half inches, my measurements are 35-29-36. I'm built small, any excess weight is very overwhelming for my frame.

I feel for those out there who are struggling with weight issues, I know I don't have it that bad, I never used to worry about these things but my metabolism has since slowed down, it's time to keep the weight in check before I keep gaining more.

I don't exactly have a goal weight, but it is evident that I need to get in shape. (I have a front view pic and side view of what's going on) I am jiggling in places I never jiggled before lol It could be due to my diet, could be the winter months just passing now, but I am very serious about starting a new lifestyle, and hopefully, some of you smart people out there have something to suggest to me.

Give me something to try! Please! lol I will keep updating my progress, and maybe the good advice will be evident in the next photos.

I will take any advice specifically for toning those fatty areas (common lower women areas) and put it into practice. So challenge me!

Forever grateful,
Sarah

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Your weight isn't so bad, even if you have a small frame. If you want to improve your figure then building muscle mass might be your preferred route. While doing that you will decrease body fat% a little and the muscles will gives you a firm body which can support your frame.

Without a picture I can't be sure whether or not weight loss should be your primary goal, but from what you said it should be secondary next to building muscle mass.

When I say muscle mass, just improving your core muscles enough so you get your desired figure. Not extreme body building or something like that. Anyways, good luck!

Welcome!

Ok, about your problem areas, the thing is you can't spot reduce weight. The only thing that will work against those area is continued weight loss. Any toning you do won't even show under those areas until you lose weight overall. If you have had those areas all your life, then chances are they were the first places you gained weight..which means it is the last places to come off.

Thank you both for your comments! I did not know some of the information you shared, actually I didn't know it worked like that at all. Around the but and the thighs is where it is most noticeable (as with many women I'm sure) I didn't know that doing squats all day would do absolutely squat for it. (I'm not funny I know lol)

So the muscle that's in there somewhere needs a workout, got it, and I can't just focus on the WORST areas, got it.

Here's what I will try, since I don't believe in gyms as the be all end all to weight issues, I'll try innovative ways to train those muscles all over till it hurts to move. After I do it once the next time isn't so rough. I'm gonna try carrying a backpack full of books up and down a long flight of stairs, pushups and situps, try gaining some of my flexibility back.

Does anybody know if it's true that you have to do at least a half hour of cardio before working out?

A half hour of cardio before working out??

I never heard of that. I have heard that some people recommend cardio on your off days of working out. Cardio and abs in fact.

For me, I first do my stretches..bout 5 minutes or so. Then I do a treadmill or elliptical for 10 to 20 minutes (depending on which machine). Not hard as you would for cardio, but enuff to get the heart pumping and the blood flowing. (My target rate for fat burning is 113....and I try to get it up to 135 for my last couple of minutes before my cool down.

Then I do my routine.

So far, I feel great after I am done. I feel alive....not burnt out and tired.

Again, this is working for me and I'm new at this so take it for what its worth.

And good luck with your progress!
