Getting Frustrated

Hi All

About 6 weeks ago I decided to start a diet... My goal is to lose 10 to 15kgs...

Heres basically whats happened and what Ive done so far to give you an idea.

I started at 101kgs... I am a 24yr old male who is roughly 6 foot tall...

So what I did was go online and did a little research, what I came up with is that for a 24yr old 6 foot male who is 85kgs the required Kilojoules per day is roughly 13500kj...

So I made up a little plan below:

Breakfast (8am) - Weight Watchers Breakfast Bar - 520kj
Morning Tea (10-10.30am) - Weight Watchers Breakfast Bar - 520kj
Lunch (12-12.30pm) - Big and Hearty Soup - 1310kj
Afternoon Tea (4-4.30pm) - Weight Watchers Breakfast Bar - 520kj

This is what I take to work each day... Which equals = 2870kj so by my maths that leaves me 10530kj for the evening... Most evenings I have some ham or chicken, maybe an apple or some diet yogurt... Which Im very sure is no where near over 5000kj total let alone 10530kj I have remaining.

So anyway I have been doing this for say 6 weeks now, Ive lost maybe 3 or 4 kgs which is why Im getting demoralised... I have no experience in dieting so I dont really know what to expect, but I found a thing on the web saying that if I eat 5000kj under my recommended daily intake that I should lose 1kg a week (and Im eating well under my daily intake especially considering Im not 85kg but actually more like 97kgs)...

So Two weeks ago I start running every night for half n hour... And doing situps weights etc (not too much but some)...

When I did this I got down to 95kgs... So 6kgs lost... However recently Im getting even more demoralised cause I cant seem to break that 5-6kg losed mark... I weight myself both in the morning and at night and I just go up and down between 96 and 98kgs...

So yeah... This is where Im at... Im getting demoralised as Im not making much progress... So Im after some advice from people in the know about such things...

1. Am I just expecting too much too soon?
2. What am I doing wrong?
3. What else should I be doing?

Please help...

Thanks

PS I have a proper spreadsheet of my daily intake including all other things like fats and sugars and proteins etc if that would be useful?

It does take a long time to see results. You shouldn't expect to lose more than 1 or 2 pounds a week. I guess that would be about a half kilo or so (not used to kilograms). Its good that you have started exercising that will help. I would suggest maybe adding more variety to what you are eating. Maybe only 1 breakfast bar for breakfast and try balanced meals for your others. A good balance of meat, starches, and vegetables. Also are you drinking 8 glasses of water a day? That really helps and doesn't take much effort.

The best way to approach this is not as if its a diet, but a lifestyle change. Though results may be gradual, this will lead you to success in the long run. Keep it up and try not to get discouraged!

Does variety actually matter? I made damn sure I was under all my daily intakes for the 85kg male that I want to be. As in im well under my fats, sugars, sodium etc...

The reason I chose the bars is cause its quick and easy... Im pretty busy and I fear that if it got to complicated I would just revert back to whatever whenever lol.

The soup I have is pretty decent, includes many vegetables (potatoes, carrots, oinions, beans, peas etc).

What does it mean when Im going up and down and up and down in weight? Thats what frustrates me the most, one day Im 96kgs the next Im back up to 98kgs... And I havent done or changed anything...
