Getting Discouraged.

:( Hi My name is Cynthia. I have changed my eating habits and been exercising for about a month and 2 weeks. I have only lost about 10-12 lbs. so far. Is it true that the older you get the harder it is to lose? I don't feel like I am losing weight with all the exerxise that I do. Mornings I walk and (run in between) About 4-5 miles a day then I do some exercises at home. I also play tennis with my daughter about 3 times a week. I just feel very discouraged.

The amount of weight you lose might not be what you should be looking at. Remember that muscle weights more then fat. With all the exercise you are doing you are probably putting as much muscle as fat you are putting off. Be patient it will come.

The best indication is if you lost inches around your waist.

Honestly, 10-12 pds in 6 wks is a good loss! You shouldn't be discouraged! I'd be so happy to have lost that amt of weight.

You have to remember that loosing weight takes time! That is the hardest part for people to really understand and accept. Just keep going hun!

Yes your metabolism will slow as you age. But losing 2 lbs a week is a very healthy weight loss, thats ENCOURAGING not discouraging.

The only way to keep it off is to lose slowly, I swear, I've yo-yo'd for half my life (I'm 32) and every time it gets harder. Slow and steady is the only way I've been able to hold the ground I've covered. Congratulations on trying to do something good for yourself! Think about feeling good, not losing weight fast. I've been on a huge plateau for nearly a year, and yes, I get discouraged too, but I know I haven't been trying THAT hard, so I've rededicated myself to the task and I'm going to bust through that invisible floor that I keep hitting about 10 pounds below where I am now. If I can do it, you can. I've been sabotaging myself for over a decade!

I agree, the weight you have lost in 6 weeks is great! Keep up the great job. It's not going to all come off right awawy. Sounds like you are doing the right things! Keep up the great work:D

Hello Cynthia.......If you do not read any other posting in this forum, read this one. Your success is exactly how it should be done. 10-12 lbs is fantastic. I know to you it may not sound like a lot, but it is. If you had lost 20-30lbs your first month, that would excite you, but chances would be that you would gain it all back plus some. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED. I do not even know you and I am excited!!!!!!!!! Fantatic job. Keep you chin up and know you are succeeding the correct way.

Don't you dare feel discouraged Cynthia! Remember this - the longer it takes you to lose weight the healthier and more likely it is that you keep it off. Average is about 2 lbs. per week so you are right on track! And congrats that you're still keeping up the good work! You're doing it the best way you can and time will fly by... soon you'll be exactly the size you want to be plus much more!
Cheers!

Cynthee..
I agree with the other responders. You should give yourself a pat on the
back for losing weight at all. Remember, most Americans (including our
children) are getting fatter and sicker. Imagine if you were to gain
10 - 12 lbs. every two months! You'd be very mad at yourself in six
months when you're 60+ pounds heavier. YOU Cynthee will be 60
pounds lighter by September 2006! Stay focused on that day and
stay the course. Every worthy achievement comes in little chunks
of milestones. YOU ARE RIGHT ON TRACK FOR MAKING 2006 THE BEST
YEAR OF YOUR ADULT LIFE! :) You'll live longer, healthier and happier
too!

Proud of you,
