Getting Bigger and getting Lean.

Hey all, sorry if this is in the wrong section or just a stupid question. I'm 18 yrs Old 5'11 and 165-170 pounds. I work out 6 times a week on alternating body parts with cardio at the end of every other workout. My diet is good and I am fairly lean already. I want to Get Bigger and Thicker But also want to continue to lower my body fat. I Don't want to get a lot bigger but i was wondering how i should go about this. Do i need to have a high caloric intake with my working out to bulk up first and then lower my body fat after? Can i do both? Thanks for any replies.

Also my Workout Routine is
Monday/thurday-Chest/Upper Back-End with cardio
Tuesday/Friday-Legs/Shoulders/Lower Back
Wednesday/Saturday-Biceps/Triceps- End with Cardio
Sunday off

Also right now i am taking Creatine and Protein immediately after my workouts and taking in about 1700-2100 calories a day through my diet

Unfortunately it's not really practical to do both at the same time. You see, you need to maintain a caloric surplus to build muscle, but you need to maintain a deficit to lose fat. That's why we generally use "bulk and cut" cycles. You can bulk up while gaining a minimum amount of fat, and then "cut" the fat that you did gain, to show off the shiney new muscles underneath.

As far as your routine, splitting your body parts up like that, while popular, isn't always a very effective way to reach your goals. Look into a full body workout 3x a week, or a more modest split (such as upper lower, or push pull)
well... ditto exactly

might want to check out the weight training 101 sticky to help you out

Why do you say that splitting up a routine into body parts isn't very effective?

All bodybuilders do it that way.

body builders take steroids. They also have unlimited time and money to devote to weight training. They are professionals.

Most people are not.

Full body workouts are effective and so are body part splits. Neither is better than the other. What works for one does not work for the other. I feel like I'll be making much more progress with a body split

I was just asking... i'm still trying to learn here.

I tried doing a bodypart split this week and I can definitely feel it more than my full body workouts.

Instead of trying to fit in the whole body in one workout I just tear the hell out of a few muscle groups each time instead.

Yeah I did the full body workouts too for a long time and when i realized i do basically have unlimited time to workout after classes i felt it a lot better

Sorry i'm new at this, but I don't understand the part where you said looking into a full body workout 3x a week or a more modest split (such as upper lower, or push pull) and wat is a modest split
