Getting Back On Track

Hey guys,

Summer just started for me so I have all the time I want on my hands for weight loss :D I used to be 154lbs, and right now I'm roughly 135lbs. I've been stuck at that weight for a few weeks now and it's going up slightly due to being naughty *tsk tsk* So anyways give me information :):)

Here's my info: I'm 15 years, 5"5 1/2, and 135-19lbs (depending on time of day, etc...)

I do no weight training but I do 10 minutes worth of situps twice a day. So basically 20 minutes but divided in times of 10 minutes each.

I jog roughly 1 kilometres a day, everyday, which takes me 15 minutes.

So what else can I do to go down to 120lbs :) Please post I could use any comments there are!

Congrats, why would you want to be 120pounds? That's very light. I think you shouldn't worry about weight (not so much) and weight train 3 to 5 times a week.

i agree. its not really bodyweight that matters but bodyfat. you see these ppl that want to lose weight and end up losing the weight but still have the fat. what they lose is water and muscle and completely screw up their metabolisms.

but if you want to lose bodyfat, what does a typical days eating look like for you? :)

Hrm, well lately like I said I haven't been eating right. I started eating right now so my breakfast was:

5 slices of deli turkey and 2 eggs and an apple. That's all I've eaten so far.

So can anyone help me :) I jog for 15 minutes a day only so I need some advice. I guess i have big bones since my ribcage isn't like those skinny girls XD So yeah. I wish I were smallboned *cries* I'm 135lbs :) Need tricep exercises BADLY. I can't seem to do well with any of them. How heavy should the weights be that I lift?

i would like to echo the comments about not watching weight as much bf%. especially if you have a larger bone structure. not much you can do about a larger rib cage, but its no big deal. i know plenty of girls with larger bone structures who i would say have very nice physiques.

i have a friend who is anorexic, and used to claim she wanted to be down to, i think it was something like 115lb. now, this was completely unrealistic for her body type. she is nearly as tall as i am (im 5'10), and had a very large bone strutcture, and was very muscular from years of gymnastics. she was attractive, even though she probably weighed quite a bit more than many would guess. she became so fixated on the numbers on the scale, she pretty much stopped eating, and now shes anorexic.

i would punt the situps. i would still recommend ab exercise, maybe 3-4 times a weeks, but cut down on the duration and add some resisitance. also, dont forget about your lower back if you do abs...strength imbalances on opposing muscle groups are a big time cause of long term injury. to be honest, i dont think long sets of lots of situps really do anything.

i would recommend longer jogs. your body stops burning immediate energy from carbs and starts burning fat after about 20 minutes. be careful about working up to longer runs though. perhaps taking a rest day each week would be wise. and if you feel the onset of what seems like an injury, back off for a couple of days.

Thanks so much Freddy :) There's no way I'll go aneorexic because I can't live without food :D

So I should add resistance to my situps? That's fine by me :D

Yeah it's really hard to do over 20 minutes. I'll try my best :D I shouldn't workout everyday should I?

If your only doing 20min a day its probably is fine to do it everyday. I believe you are probably very close to a nice managable weight considering your 5 foot 5. I would concentrate on increasing your muscle but doing sets of 10 and 12's. I assume your a women who doesn't want to be muscular but sleek and tone?

A wealth of excercises

Wow thanks Newf! That is definitely a wealth of exercises :)

Yes I'm only 15 so I'm probably still growing but I would like to maintain a healthy weight of 130 at most.

I need to work my abs *poke*

if you have a hard time doing 20 min, try adding a minute every time. you'll be off on 45 minute runs in no time.

you should have rest days once in a while. you can train every day, i certainly have before...but be wary of overuse injuries. it can offer a higher reward, and a higher risk. personally, i lift 4 days a week and do cardio twice. hey, even the Man upstairs took a day off...and hes a busy guy.

like newf said, sets of 10-12 would porbably suffice. i would recommend trying the dip (or assisted dip) machine (if you have access to the gym). a lot of girls who do resistance training worry about getting bulky muscles...dont worry about it. first off, its not nearly as easy for a female to gain muscle mass as it is for males (hey, and even for us guys, it aint easy!) also, you dont just wake up one morning with an extra 2 inches on your arms...if your starting to gain bulky muscles, you;d notice long, long before it got out of control.
