Getting a 6 Pack asap?

maybe thats true but you deff need to have a good level of mental maturity before hitting the gym. Acctually I think that goes for everyone. Im always seeing full grown adults doing meg stupid things in the gym.

Ok I vote, kids can train but must be suppervised at all times untill old enough to pass "the test"

I say that anyone who wants to hold a weight in there hand must have a licence and pass a basic test called "the test" this will stop the 70year old block in my gym from picking up 10kg weights and swinging them round his body, and stop him locking his arms when he bench presses ( everytime I have to look away cos it looks like his arm is gonna fold out the wrong way.)

Ok whos with me on the stupid test???

Dex and newf, do you agree that kids should be suppervised if they are to use the gym?

Every beginner should be taught by an experienced lifter or professional. My uncle helped me, he's a powerlifter.

I think that would be a good idea. To show kids the basics and make them pass a test. 1 hour could save them a lifetime of trouble.
Btw good post Dex.

It depends on the kid themselves... as manofkent said, mental maturity plays a big part... because at our club we have an 'orientation' and every now and then I do a "youth" one... and you could have a 12 yr old that is focussed and wants to learn and does well, and then you can have an 18 that think he's the "shiznit" doesn't listen and goes and tries 200 pound squats...

So they need supervision up to a certain point, depends on the individual on how much they need...

running and swimming are your best bet. 14 isn't really too young to weight train and do ab workouts, in my opinion. I'm 15 and at least half of my year (of 100 people) weight train, 20 of which have 6-packs. Our school has its own gym which you can start to use from the end of year 9 (13-14). Maybe there is too much of a rush but too early? I don't know. Does it lead to a bad back later on if you have a six pack now as logn as you work out on your back too?

Maybe 120 crunches, 40 pushups and 80 leg lifts twice a day is a bit much..try to do it every other day because you can overwork muscles. Most important thing is diet as well. Don't look towards an extreme weight loss diet but just try and get a few hundred calories under what you eat now. Stay active and healthy, do sports, and stay away from heavy weight lifting.

I'm only a year older so I should probably follow the same advice :S
