german volume training

does anyone have experience with german volume training (10 set training)? if so, how were your results? what is your opinion on the method?

I have been using GVT for 10 weeks now on my chest days, I mainly do this because I work out at home and buying weights isn't cheap. I found it works very well for me and have gained about 1 inch in that 10 weeks. Also i had never been as sore the next 3 days after a workout, GVT will hurt for a while... trust me on this one. But if I were you I would read up more on it and work out what would be best for you. I'm not brave enough to use it on any other days because of the pain. It really isn't for people who aren't commited. But if you don't mind feeling sore then it does work.

I have used GVT in the past and gotten some results. When I do use this training technique, however, I don;t apply it to all of my exercises. For example, on my back day, I might use GVT for pulldowns, and follow with two other back exercises, either isolated or compound, in regular sets, pyramids or drop sets.

A while ago, I came across an article by Charles Poliquin, where he modified the GVT to work the different fibers of a muscle. For example, if your exercise of choice was bench, he would have you do the following (instead of 10 sets of 10 on flat bench for example):

Incline Bench Press… 3 sets of 10
Decline Bench Press… 3 sets of 10
Bench Press… 3 sets of 10
Dumbbell Flies… 1 set of 10

I tried this and it worked well for me. I would have given you the link to the article, however, it is not available anymore, as his website has become available through membership only. However, if you are interested in becoming a member, here is his website:

Hope this helps you! :)

thank you for your replies.

i did some research, and decided to try it for myself...man, it is one beastly workout plan. i felt destryoed after that first chest/back day. i think i will stay on it for about 6 weeks and see what happens...

The germans sort of brought it into the fitness community, it had been popular in Germany for years before it became known and popularised within the bodybuilding community worldwide. Much like a Hungarian squat.

I am new to this site so I apologize for the late response to GVT. I just wanted to add that if you enjoy the results from GVT but get bored like I do. Check out this workout.

This is one of my all time favorites. The strength coach who designed it, Christian Thibaudeau, is one of the best. I guarantee most of you will enjoy the results too.

that link u posted dedroit it bull****, it says it took him 14 weeks to get from a fat get to ripped up muscle. Bollocks, not only does it take alot longer then 14 weeks to bulk up to that muscle mass but, secondly even if he cud, he still wud have to tone up and burning fat takes just as long.

Exe,

I understand what you are saying BUT it doesn't change the fact that this program is great or at least was great for me. Give it a try and then tell me you didn't like it. That's your right. I have personally done it twice now. I have experienced gains in strength, size, and I have lost fat adding a HIIT program along with the lifting.

I'm not trying to sell you anything like a muscle-tech ad. I'm just suggesting the program to anyone who may be interested in a program similar to GVT.

Exe, Christian Thibaudeau does not claim that he got those results in 14 weeks solely by doing the OVT. In fact, if you go to the T-nation website, you can find the article in which he fills you out on everything he did/took to get those results, I believe it is entitled "The Beat Evolves". Christian can tell you what results you may get from what trainings and what supplements because he goes out and actually tries them himself. He never claims to be something that he is not. He is a reknown professional and has trained many ELITE ATHLETES successfully. I suggest you do a little research before passing judgement.

For all the non-skeptics, CT has started a new program called Mutation Series where he gets even more shredded. I would post the link but I don't want it to be called "bulls**t".

On second thought......if you are interested here it is, if not then don't click on the link.

Part 2: weeks 4-6

The rest of the program is not out yet.

So far this program is kicking my @ss!

I may be biased by my own progress from his programs but if he said he got that ripped in 14 weeks, well I believe him.

Thx for your replies, I read his article. He got some pro's in to help him to get to that transformation. Its seems more believable with the depth he goes into explaining the whole process. I have also been notified that somewere else on this forum off someone that you know the guy in real life mogwai. So i'll also take that into account.

I dont get it. If your doing so much, wont it just cut you up. On that webpage the guy is doing 40 sets a workout (the chest back at least). I thought muscle mass was gained with high intensity, less time in the gym. this seems to be low intensity, more time in the gym. but if it is working for you guys, thats great! lemme know, and ill try it out myself, and we can trade ideas!

ok so you're saying you should do GVT when you are ALREADY big, not to GET big. So it sounds like GVT is exactly what I said it sounds like - cutting. But hell it sounds like a real good program. I'm gonna try it soon.

I would like to try GVT. However, this link doesnt seem to be working. Is this just me? If not, can someone give me the details of that workout so I can try it.

Sorry for the confusion. T-mag has changed their website completely so the links are not going to work anymore. I will locate the program and put the link here.
