Geeez, this is heavy :-(

So you know, I have often wondered (like this morning daydreaming) where I would be now if I hadn't caught myself at the edge of a tall cliff, 2 years ago, turning myself around from the extreme of poor health, to where I am now.

But do you ever wonder why some people can catch themselves like I did, and others, eventually kill themselves (sorry, can't think of a nicer way to describe such a terrible end)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So anyway, tonight after grocery shopping, I ran into an old friend / co-worker..... And all was not good. The guy was always 30 or 40 lbs heavier than me, and I myself was well into the obese range. But apparently, he totally kept on with his poor health life style > even after he developed diabetes ! Since then his kidneys have shut down twice ! He's on a whole bunch of prescription meds. And all of this just really sucks, because he is just a really good guy :(
And ya' know, he acted like he had time to talk (or wanted to hear more...) So I preceded to tell him how two years ago, I was in such misery due to my own poor health, that I didn't care if I lived or died. And here I am now, 105 lbs of fat lost, 32 lbs of muscle gained. To which he was like "Yea ! I can see that" So what did you do" ???
I always have to start with > "Well, I wish I could give you a silver bullet. But in the simplest terms, you have to totally change your eating, excersizing lifestyle.... and I do mean like wipe the chalkboard clean, and start from scratch" !!!
Aside from that, I had to admit to the guy that I have hard-core OCD. So once I get something stuck in my head, it absolutely consumes me ! Whether it be, getting back into really good health, or catching a bunch of big fish :)
But who knows. Different people probably have different kick starts for getting ones self healthy.
I don't have kids, but if I did, I'd think that would be another big motivator.
Anyway, a lot of people without OCD have pulled them selves up from the bottom, back to great health too. I just wish that everyone in poor health, could find the motivator that works for them, to turn it around.
Peace,
Fish
Good on you for finding your way back! :)
I agree, It is all about a change of lifestyle, you have to look at the complete picture of what you are eating, why you are eating and when you are eating and also who you surround yourself with.
I really think to be surrounded by positive motivated people has a domino affect and can really help you to succeed, in whatever you do.
Congratulations......wooo hoooo to you :)
Warm regards,
It is great to have empathy for others who have fallen, but the weight can be too much. Remember, it is not your responsibility to fix your friends problems. They need to find their own path. You can't walk the Siddhartha road for anyone else! It is a solo journey.
Be a guide, offer knowledge and friendship, but do not get bogged down with the negative energies of those facing their own demons.
Your walking a path to the summit of your mountaintop, only you will get to experience the view along the way.
“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear†Buddhist Proverb
This does not work the other way around!
By accomplishing your goals, you in effect become a leader. Hopefully, more will learn from you and start their own path.
Thanks guys.
Pwillows, that is a great proverb. Ya' know, although I don't stick to any one particular religion, Buddhism makes a LOT of sense.
Peace,
Fish
