G'Day

I have become a non smoker in the recent past, which I am very happy about. But in the process I have gained weight, about 30 pounds or 15Kg.
I am eating a lot more than I used too. But I feel I am at a point where I can now start to control this. I have never had a weight problem before and have always been very active. I am 56.

So in the past week..
I have got an indoor exercise bike. I am up to 30 min 2 times a day which is a total of 500 Calories burned (per bike counter). I am also walking, up hill for 1 K, 10 min of stair climbing and doing floor exercises, leg lifts sit ups that sort of thing. I figure I am burning around 700 calories a day in addition to my normal active life. I can not run, I also have arthritis in my elbows and wrists. I have always been rather muscular so do not want to lift weights. I also live 45 min from the nearest town so can only really work out at home.

Food wise I am starting to count calories to see where I am at. this week I have cut out cokes, milk products and concentrated sweets. I have counted calories the last few days I am eating around 1800-2000. This is still more food than I was eating in the past, so I need to reduce this amount.

So... I would appreciate any suggestions on where to start. As I said I need to loose around 30 lbs to get back to normal. I would be happy if I could loose 20 to tell the truth. I just feel too pudgy! LOL

Thanks in advance!

You're exercising, you're cutting down your food, and you've eliminated sodas. Give it a week or 2 and you'll start to see the weight slowly slip off! Just keep at it, remember it's not an exercise plan to lose weight, its a life style change to keep weight off! Good luck!

Hi Twentyforth,
Thanks for the response. I weighed myself today, 4 days since I weighed last. I have lost 0.7Kg (about 1 pound) so thought that was pretty good. Today I made up some spread sheets to track my food, exercise and weight.

I also saw that 6 meals a day was recommened? I did it today, divided 1500 cal by 6 and then ate approx that amount at each sitting. I thought I felt pretty good, did not get that full feeling. The mid afternoon feed, I was just not hungry so skipped it, so saved another 250 cals.
Any one with an opinion on this 6 meals a day?

Well I don't do exactly 6 meals a day, but same logic... I try and keep eating to keep my metabolism up if I eat lunch around 12 and I know my break at work will be at 6, I'll bring an apple or a granola bar to eat at 3.

And awesome on the spreadsheet :) you might want to consider posting it here!
