G'day - can you give some advice?

G'day

Just thought I'd post this here - there are so many helpful sections in the forum! Hi to all from down under :action11:

I'm trying to lose a little bit of weight, so I've been exercising about 4x a week for the last few months. I'm 6 foot, 195 pounds, 27yo. Eat mainly ok - no junk food, only drink water and a few beers every few days. Usually have cereal/porridge, then a subway foot long for lunch and chicken/beef/salad for dinner.

I've built up a bit of muscle around the chest/arms/shoulders but still have a bit of a belly. I've been doing the following workout (minus the lunges) about 3 times each session

Randy Couture training

with 10-15 kg (20-35lbs) weights, less if I just want cardio (more reps) along with medium weight arm curls, shrugs, etc nothing too hardcore.

I usually go for a 10 min bicycle session, or a short jog after weights for cardio, so about 40 min per day.

My thighs seem to be getting bigger, and this isn't really what I want, as some important bits are getting squished! So what I was wondering was this a result of the bike riding? I often go for 30-60min rides on the bicycle for cardio/recreation but I never push too hard. In the weights I don't really do many squats as I don't want big thighs.

Any help appreciated!

You say you've gained muscle elsewhere, but are still holding onto body fat. Is it possible that you've just gained a bit of muslce in you thighs, but have not lost body fat off them yet? This would cause them to get bigger for the time being until you lose the layer of fat over the muscle. When I first started lifting weights I had this same problem. Just my $0.02 :)

Get a new routine before you get hurt. A couple of those exercises dont seem safe, especially for a beginner.

Lose the beers, find your BMR and eat less calories than you burn.

Ok - thanks for the tips. I don't think I have any fat on my legs, but then I don't know my BMR so there could be a few beers floating around!

Just out of curiosity - what was dangerous about the exercises?

Cheers

PS: Does bike riding/jogging make legs bigger or smaller?!

Military presses behind the neck can put unecessary strain on the shoulders and the one where he bends over with the bar on his back looks risky too. These are just my opinions, but if you're new (or if not) i would stay away from those exercises.

Here are a few things that might be helpfull:
