Hi Leanne, Had mine done last week. Ask you consultant for lots of info regarding post op care and the dietician for lots of advice. I have been very sore, to be expected, but today am feeling very positive, have kind of got the eating sorted for this next couple of weeks and can't wait to be 'normal' for the first time in nearly forty years.

hi Lomiklor, thank you for all the advice, and i'll make sure i ask all the questions.I hope everything goes well for you in the future and good luck xx

hi leanne!
i had gastric bypass surgery 13 years ago and lost 200 pounds. it really is the last resort, not an easy way out. if you ever want to talk about your progress, let me know. i would be happy to support you.
i am a 58 year old woman and weighed in at a whopping 343 pounds. i am 5'3" and was literally as tall as i was round. 63" in both directions, so i was like a weeble, i would wobble but i didn't fall down!
i ended up losing too much weight and had to put some back on. unfortunatey i put on 40 pounds instead of 20, so here i am trying like the dickens to lose that weight again. it doesn't sound like much after my initial loss, but it makes a huge difference on a short frame. good luck and keep moving forward.

Hello Leanne I am new to this forum and I just had the GBS on March 9, 2010 and I have already lost 41lbs in 2 1/2 mths. It is not easy at all but it has all been worth it because I am no longer diabetic and off of pills and insulin. I hope all has been going well for you.

Hi Leanne,
I had my bypass in April 2010. Couldn`t wait to have it done. However, struggling with vomiting at the moment, going to have endoscopy to see what the problems is. Hopefully, that will sort it out. Most people tell me I`m mad for having it done!! But I did it for health reasons. Let me know how you got on or are getting on. I live not far away from you.
Speak soon,
xx

hi sexygeorgie40,thank you for you message,i hope your vomiting problem gets sorted and you start to feel better soon.i am still waiting for my date to come through,my consultant told be to look at about august time, lots of people have also said to me i must be mad but i have honestly tried everything else to loose weight but i just cant seem to shift the weight.I am looking forward to haveing the bypass done but i am also starting to get a little bit nervouse as well.Good luck on your weightloss journey...... Leanne.

Hi Leanne,
Thanks for the reply. i am feeling quite down at the moment with the vomiting. I have to have further investigations - endoscopy and dilatation as the surgeon thinks thats the problem. I hope it gets sorted, as I am not eating anything!! Are you having your surgery at the Walsall Manor Hospital, that`s where I had mine. Would like to keep in touch with you, if thats ok as we live so close to each other. If not , no problems.
Thanks,
Sara x x

Hi Sara, sorry your still not feeling well,i realy hope they can get it sorted for you,xx
Yes i am haveing my operation done at Walsall Manor Hospital,i've had my date come through nd i have got to go in to hospital on the 4th july 2010,so two weeks time,i'm very excited at the moment,i dare say that will change the closer the time gets,i'm on the liquid diet at the moment for two weeks, not finding it the easiest thing to do but trying very hard to stick to it.Hope everything goes well for both of us and please do keep in touch, speak soon and good luck Leanne.xx

hi sara, luanne and your messages showed up in my email and i hope you don't think i am out of place contacting you. sara, i too had problems with vomiting. in fact it came to a point where i couldn't even drink liquid. i had my surgery 13 years ago and still fight this problem. it got to the point where i ended up in the hospital 20 pounds underweight and severly dehydrated and malnourished. they performed and endoscopy and dilation on my and that helped for a few days, it closed up again. i had to have it done 3 times. the third was the charm. i regained some weight to a healthy level and it is still working fine. i still have trouble with meats and some things like rice and fresh fruits and vegetables, but i am fine with that compared to how it was. good luck to you on the dilation. it isn't hard or even uncomfortable and probably the sooner the better you have it done. hang in there. things will be fine.

Hi Rikki, thanks for contacting me. It was great to hear from somebody who has had my problems. I hyave to wait until beginning of July for endoscopy and dilation. I can`t wait. Some days are better than others, sometimes I have problems keeping liquids down. So get very upset. Should be going holiday at start of august, so i hope i don`t have to cancel as really need holiday due to the crap year I have had so far. Were you out of hospital the same day after it? I still have not gone back to work yet due to the vomiting. Any advice would be great thanks

Hi Leanne,
If you send me a private message, I will reply and give you my phone number and email address, if you want for a chat. I did have mine done at the Manor, as I live in Cannock. I found the diet before surgery easy and lost quite a bit of weight. I have been keeping a weight book including my measurements, to see how things have changed. I have lost nearly 4 stone since surgery. It would be good to chat, but dont worry if you dont want to. I have got my endoscopy on 09/07/10, so you will have had your surgery by then.
Please keep in touch,
Sara x
