Gaining over 8 pounds in one week

I finally reached my intermediate weight loss goal early in January. I continued to lose weight until I was 3.6 pounds under my goal. In the last 7 days I have gained 8.2 pounds in spite of continuing to diet and exercise.

wtf?

Why, how can I possibly put on over 8 pounds in 7 days and what can I do to get it to go away? I'm already working out 2 hours a day and consuming about 1800 caloires per day.

This is horribly depressing. Every day this week I've tried to keep my chin up and hope that tomorrow the weight gain will stop and begin to disappear again....but every morning I weigh more.

Could it also be muscle gain. Muscle weighs more than fat. Are your clothes fintting the same?
I don't think it's possible to put on 8 pounds of muscle in 7 days. Of course I don't think it's possible to put on 8 pounds of fat in 7 days either. It almost has to be water, but why?!

I don't own any diuretics and I don't want to use any....I just want to stop gaining this weight. It's just not fair to be dieting and exercising and putting on over a pound a day.

do you take any kind of B vitamin? I retain water like crazy sometimes and I have found taking a B complex helps that greatly

I take a Kirkland brand multivitamin with herbs every day. It appears to contain adequate amounts of the B vitamins according to the label.

well my only other thought is meds....are you on any meds for anything?
Nope. I'm baffled and frustrated. It's enough to make me wanna cook up a pan full of bacon and eggs. If I'm going to gain weight, I might as well eat while doing so. :(

Thanks for trying to help....sorry if I'm letting my frustration get in the way of being polite.

no dont do it! if you go on a binge that will almost certainly be you on the upward spiral again. Give it a few more days, be really strict in recording your intake, dont go over say 1500, and it will start going back down again. also check your thryoid gland is working ok, this can slow your metabolism right down which can cause weight gain. easiest way is to check your pulse, should be around 70-90 i think, anything really slow would indicate a very poor metabolism, and need looking at.

please dont go on a binge, i didi it for same reason last year and put whole lot back on again within 2 months. its not worth it.

Just had a thought, have you checked your weight on different scales? The most logical reason is your scales have gone wonky.

Thanks for the responses guys. I did a one day rebellion to dieting. I didn't go totally crazy but I didn't work out and ate cheese and crackers for a large snack. :)

My weight didn't go up after my day of diet rebellion and it has slowly started to drop again.

Bottom line, at the end of 2 weeks, my weight is still 2.8 pounds over what it was....(which ain't fair, dieting and exercising should not result in a weight gain after 2 weeks) but at least it's a number that isn't freaking me out completely.
