Gained weight since going to gym

New to these boards, and VERY new to working out.
Over the last year, I have lost 30 pounds. I definately want to keep the weight off, so at the beginning of the year, I started, mostly treadmill 45 minutes 4-5 times/week. Since starting I have gained 4 pounds! Im eating the same, Im just a little freaky over these four pounds that has crept up!
Maybe, I should tell you my size. Im F 5'3 and now weigh 119!

Now that you're exercising, get rid of your scale. It's useless. Muscle weighs more than fat, so it's quite common when you add muscle to see an increase in body weight. Don't sweat it. Let the mirror be your guide;)

Measure your waist. If you lose inches on your waist but gain on the scale than you know you can rejoice instead of despair.
Nothing tells progress like a measuring lint.

Also, test your body fat percentage. The easiest way is just to get body fat calipers. You will probably find that your weight is going up but your body fat is going down. If you replace fat with muscle that takes up the same amount of space, you will weigh more. You may not want to gain muscle mass, but as long as you don't look too bulky, the scale doesn't really matter. And, a little extra muscle will help you to burn fat off more easily because it will raise your metabolism.

Thank you! I was hoping you all would say that. Im trying not to be such a slave to that scale, but, its part of my morning ritual, and to be honest, I LOVE seeing that low number!:p
Maybe tomorrow morning I will take out a measure tape instead of stepping on the scale!:p

Ditto on the above posts. Weight is useless for most people. Check your body fat %. I find calipers hard to use especially if you are doing it by yourself. I like the bio-impendence machines better.

They run about $30 USD. I like Omron products.

When I was the fittest, healthiest and "smallest" I weight the most. Interesting, huh? Weight is definitely not a measure of success. It's all about body fat % and how you fit in your clothes.
