Gah! Motivation, anyone?

Hi, everyone. I'm new on here and I decided to join because I'm trying to lose some serious weight, but I lack motivation. I'm 5'9'' and about 300, depending on the time of day. I've been going to a gym, but only 3-4 times a week. I do a brisk walk on the treadmill for about 15 minutes and then I use the weight machines that a trainer told me to do. POINT is...I'm actually losing my motivation to go and I was wondering how everyone else stays so motivated. I mean, I want to lose the weight and all, but if I don't see results fast enough, I tend to give up. (Bad habbit) So if anyone has any help or anyone lives in the Baltimore area and can maybe help motivate me, I'd really appreciate it!

I was also wondering if those diet supplements work for anyone or if I should just stay away from them all together?

Motivation really comes from within you - ask yourself WHY you want to improve your health and your appearance - doesnt matter what that reason is as long as it's coming from you and is meaningful to you.

Youo might want change up your program a bit - as well as monitor your calories - in the weight lloss thru exercise forum there's a good thread called Workout youo might want to check out.

Welcome to the forum and have fun while you're here

read the fine print on them - they all say they will work with a sensible diet an exercise program - save yourmoney for a new wardrobe and just do the diet and exercise

Ok, thanks! I didn't figure they'd really be any help. As far as diet goes, it sounds crazy coming from a 300 lb. 20 year old, but I have very little appetite. But once I do get hungry, (being Italian and living in an Italian family) I eat a lot. And not anything very good. I'm not sure what to do about a diet. Some people say eat 500 meals a day, but small portions. Some say eat 2 a day and make them large portions. I'm gonna be looking around on here for some better advise on food, but I just joined like, 15 minutes ago, so I haven't had a chance to look around yet. But I really appreciate any tips you have! :)

Poke around this site - you'll find a thread on the 3 meals vs 5 meals as well as a thread on how many calories you should be consuming in a day (it's more than you generally think)

Losing weight is simply a matter of using more calories than you take in - so once you know how many calories you're eating - reducing that gets youo on your way..

I find it helpful to just keep track of everything I eat and drink daily so I know how many calories I'm taking in every day. Fitday.com is a free site that lets you track what you eat. It contains a database of nutrition info for common foods and also lets you add in your own custom foods. You can also log your exercise times.

Sometimes my estimates about how many calories are in something are right on, and other times it is surprising how much is in something. Seeing all the numbers and tracking them makes it easier to know how much you're actually eating.

Thanks so much! I'm gonna go on and join it. So I just put in what I eat everyday and it'll tell me what I need to know?

I wouldn't rely on how many calories it tells you that you burn per day. It seems a little high to me. But it will keep track of what you eat and how much you burn through exercise.

There are other sites out there that can estimate how many calories you burn per day. Maybe someone else has a link?

Yup just be honest with your portion sizes.. At the beginning you might want to do some weighing and measuring - portion sizes are not often what you think they are... so honesty is your best friend... :)

For years I swore that ate healthily (and I did never ate fast food or fried foods or anything really bad on a regular basis) but until I actually started measuring portions and recording my daily calories, I didn't really realize how much I was eating in a day...
