full body workout

yeah....whats wrong with working the entire body in 1 day, then say do cardio for the 2 days rest, then 3 days later do another full body workout, or something to that extent. but whats wrong with a full body workout, why do people split up lower half, and top half. is there a real reason? would it make a difference if youre muscles rest and get bigger either way?

nothing at all wrong with that. i did full body workouts years ago and did very well. i'd lift, take 2 days to recover then hit it again.

just a matter of variety. if one would work it too much then gains will more than likely dry up. but that goes for any routine, if the body becomes accustomed to it. ;)

I've put on a pound a week since Christmas doing a whole body workout three times a week, the secret is to only use compound lifts and avoid training to failure.

I think full-body workouts are severely overlooked as a means for strength development as well as hypertrophy training. The very first exercise routines were full-body affairs and many lifters and bodybuilders used this style of training up until the early to late fifties, when split system training became popular among bodybuilders.

The split system is just a way to devote more time and effort to muscle groups, which is fine and often necessary for today's bodybuilders. But, I think full-body workouts are great for fitness enthusiasts as well as athletes. This allows more time to be spent on other activities or skills development.
