Frustrated!

Hey everyone, I'm Amber! After 3 weeks of busting my butt, I've only lost 2 pounds! So, I thought I'd find a place where other people are going through similar scenarios trying to lose weight! I've packed on 30 pounds of "relationship weight" in 3 years! I never really noticed until my fat jeans barely buttoned! I'm looking to lose 10 pounds by July 31st for a vacation. My long term goal is 50 pounds. I just want to be healthy and fit. I'm 23 years old, stand 5'4 and weight 193lbs. I get winded climing 3 flights of stairs. It shouldn't be that way. My biggest fear is stepping on the scale and seeing 200 pounds, or having a doctor tell me I have diabetes or high blood pressure. I'm WAY too young for that. I don't want to stress about my weight or how I look everyday. I work at the front desk of a major company and I feel the way I look is a big first impression for anyone that comes into the lobby.

I browsed some forums and this place just seems like a good fit as far as support and encouragment go!

Hi from a fellow newbie.

Nothing wrong with 2 pounds in 3 weeks. It equals 20 pounds in 30 weeks. Which is a lot better than gaining 10.

Hard work has it's own rewards as well. Especially if you get in a groove.

I do my best when I get in a groove and don't rely on the scale to tell me to get out.

Also, you may very well have gained muscle, so your total fatloss may be more than 2.

All the best, Seth

I am new to this site and I feel your pain! I commend you for the pounds you did lose. I am only 26 and appalled when I joined at OneLifeFitness this week stepped on the scale and found I was 202. Wowwww. I wanted to cry. Granted, I knew I had gained babyweight but a BMI of 40 is just scary at my age. Being a nurse, I feel so ashamed that I am preaching Diabetes and hypertension prevention when I myself am not a good example. It feels better knowing I am not the only one in my 20's feeling frustrated. Good luck with your progress!

Amber- welcome to the boards!

I'm in your boat too...I've been busting my butt at the gym for the past 4 weeks, and on wed I had my "assessment" to see how I'm doing. I was SOOO discouraged that I had only lost 3lbs (but gained a pound of muscle!!) ...but you know what, that's normal! You're weight loss is a wonderful accomplishment! And while I know it's very easy to get discouraged, just think that you're working towards your goals! Weight loss isn't easy, but girl, you've already lost weight!! You're moving ahead!

And when i was discouraged this week, I talked to someone, and they said that healthy weight loss is really .5lb - 1.5lbs a week! You want it to come off slowly, because in the long run, it won't come running back!

You're doing FANTASTIC! Commend yourself for your wonderful work! Your wonderful HARD work! I know it's rough, and we get discouraged, but YOU CAN DO IT! We're all here for you, and we've all been there- but you're a strong gal, who wants to work hard- so you'll make it through!! :)

Go look in the mirror and tell yourself that you're am awesome babe!! :)

Guys how many of you are on low fat diets and performing "cardio" every week on the treadmill etc for long periods of time .

You can lose 2 lbs a week .You can lose large amounts of weight to start with and not Pyle it back on . But you have to train right (Build a bigger engine) For long term fat loss . Ie Build Muscle . You burn more calories through muscle than anything . The more muscle you have the more calories you expand . :smash:

I agree- I think the point of her comment was that, while most people may see a drastic weight decrease starting out, it's not healthy for you to see that throughout the entire time you're reaching for your goal. You should expect, and not get discouraged, when you only see a .5 -1lbs decrease per week. Which I think is true...and I don't think the scale is how you should only measure your progress!

As for diets, low fat, low carb, etc. and exercising...I think there are optimal combination, but I also think it's personal. Not only personal because of body type, metabolism, genes, but also lifestyle (i.e., time, money, etc.). And I also think when you start out, especially those (like me) who didn't lead the picture of health life, may find it easier to stick to changing one thing at a time...I'm blabbing now...

I've read several of your posts, and you seem very knowledgeable on diet +exercise combination!

Hopefully all this will help Amber :)

Yes your right, A lb here an there every week is fine . If your weight training you might even go up on the scales due to the fact your putting on muscle . Muscle weights more than fat . I tend to not go off the scales and go of things like cloths . As for the scales its very unpredictable , Especially if your performing Resistance training etc.

Your spot here , To many people try to change there whole life at once and then find it to hard (Reality check) Get discourage and return to there old bad habits . Then January comes along and they go through the whole thing again . Simple thing like having no sugar in your tea and eat sweet potatoes in stead of normal potatoes are going to help . Don'T Try and run before you can walk .

unfortunately eating healthy costs money , Thats the sad thing about this day and age . But you no the saying you pay for what you get . You would put cheap bad fuel in your car so why fuel your body that way . You only get one body so look after it by fueling it properly with good foods . Not processed rubbish...

Quick one for Amber . Have you restricted your calories for the whole 3 weeks ? Have you been eating less calories every day than normal ?
