Fruits and Vegetables

Losing weight is harder then I thought. I buy salad mix and bananas. First off, I buy everything when my own money. The food spoils too fast. The bananas would spoil 3 days after I get it and the salad mix spoils probably in a week. I eat a little bit of the salad everyday for lunch and before I get to finish it it'll spoil. I'm not sure if its best to eat a big salad or a small one. My diet is followed by .

Buy tinned and frozen fruit and veg as a back up.

You can also buy special bags which keep food fresh for much longer- they are in kitchenware catalogs and do work.

Hello,

I briefly viewed the link you provided to the Negative Calorie Food Diet. I have a few questions for you and then I will get to some options you may want to consider.

Is these the only foods you are eating? Do you eat meat, milk, eggs, bread, etc?

How long have you been doing this?

What is your current weekly fitness program? How long has it been like this?

What does your current daily menu look like? How long has it looked like this?

What is your current body fat %, height, weight, age, sex?

A lot of things will affect your weight loss goals.

Okay, enough of that. Here's my not-so secret secret... buy less and more frequently. Instead of buying a bunch of bananas, just buy 2 or 3. Same goes for the salad. Also learn new recipes that combine foods that are about to spoil.

So maybe have a salad with apples and mandarin oranges. Or add that banana to a peanut butter and hemp bread sandwich. MMmmmmMMMm.

I have as many questions as Lynn but in reference to the salad...the mix bags are usually 6 cups or in other words 3 servings. Sounds like your not eating enough if a bag is lasting longer than a week.

To Lynn:

I don't follow the link to a T but I do consume vitamin D milk, whole wheat bread, boiled canned chicken, 2 large salad servings everyday, tomates, and water.

I started this at October 3rd and now it's 21st so 19 days.

Everyday I do a 6 lap run, 200 jump roping, 20 sit ups, 20 push ups, and every Monday and Wednesday I go to the weight room. During weekends I go to the parking right after I wake up and run 3 times on the outside.

My daily menu is above but I do consume alot of snacks to apples, buffalo chicken, and candy.

Last year my current fat % was 29.3, I'm 5'9", 222lbs, 15, and I'm male.

If your serious about this my advice would be to get some structure, a real routine. All that stuff your doing is better than sitting on the couch but it's also a bit like wandering aimlessly towards your goal. You need a plan for both diet and exercise to make this work. Do you have access to weights? Can you do better on your eating? The good news is you get to eat more! You aren't eating enough from the looks of it. But it has to be the right type of foods. We are here to help, let me know if you want it. :)

I don't much go for the baggy salads, they DO spoil fast and I only shop once a week. Instead, get the veggies and fruit you like. Then, the next week, get others. Variety helps a lot!

I'm no expert but i always thought that you should stay away from the canned fruit I think that there canned with a bunch of added sugar. My sister has diabetes and her doctor tells her that she can have fresh fruit but to stay away form the canned stuff.

Fruits and vegetables are meant to compliment diets, not substitute things like meat and potatos totally.

I find myself very hungry after eating just mixed greens for a meal. I make sure to have some grilled chicken in it or if im feeling like it, some awesome crab cakes. Watch out for too much dressing. Dip your fork into the dressing first, then grab a bite of salad, you use alot less dressing.

As far as using vegetables to snack on. I like apples because of the high fiber content. You feel full and the calories in apples are mostly fiber so it goes right threw you.

I make a very large salad that I take to work (weighs about 3 pounds), usually big enough for a snack and lunch, it's pretty cheap to make, generally about 1/4 of a head of lettuce, 1 cup of swiss chard or spinach, 1 green pepper, 1 tomato, 1/4 purple onion, a little shredded cheese, and either a small steak cut up or a chicken breast cut up. For salad dressing it doesn't take too much if you either spin it in or put a bit in then shake the whole thing to distribute it evenly.

I shop on Sunday usually and nothing goes bad on me very often since they are whole when I buy them (whole fruits and vegetables last a lot longer than cut, whole apples last at least a month in the crisper), its also cheaper to make your own salad than to buy a prebagged one.

whats a crisper blackedout?

and where can i find these bags that keep salad longer? I've never heard of that!! i live in an apartment so my fridge is cheap and the drawers dont keep anything fresher anylonger than the shelf :)

i'M EATING MY LARGE LUNCH salad for over a year now, and i find i'm fuller with protein in it.and i have an apple after . than i'm full enough.

Definitely I don't feel full without adding the chicken or steak to my salad, don't know why but I can eat salad all day without the meat and still feel hungry.
