Check it, Im a 22 year old 6'6" smoker clocking in at about 359 pounds give or take, because of my blood pressure scare, and unfounded fear of having a heart attack any day now (turns out the BP was white coat but im still staying on the meds until i lose a few) I plan on losing about 120 lbs. of that over the next 8-12 months (sooner of possible later if need be). I know, "blah blah 1 percent a week, blah blah blah you'll gain it all back if you lose it to fast, etc etc." Nonetheless i find my goal reasonable and healthy for a man of my age and frame, granted any tips provided (particularly those given by people that have actually lost weight) will be taken into consideration through out this diary.

I have gone ahead and placed my goals into 3 simple steps for success.

1. Quit or significantly cut down my cigarette and alcohol intake its not good for my blood pressure and its full of tar and empty calories respectively.

2. Join the local boxing gym, and YMCA I tried the gym, gym and frankly no dice I dont enjoy treadmills and ellipticals, alternately I love swimming and boxing, hence i shall exercise by these means (not including my raised amount of walking) and these means alone, until i reach around the 315 pound mark at which time i will begin to do weight training, and yoga (both of these services being provided at aforementioned YMCA).

3. NO RED MEAT NON-NATURAL SUGARS, OR FRIED FOODS....ok some but once every 9-12 days tops and in moderation, combined with a 1800 calorie a day diet for the first three months (Unless this intake does not allow me to exercise to my fullest extent at which time i shall raise it to 2200 calories, not avoid exhaustion and similar roadblocks.) i plan on losing the first 50 some odd pounds within the said 3 month time frame.

Wish me luck I will keep you all updated with weekly weigh ins opposed to the daily intake same thing being typed every day stuff, unless of course i fall off track, am replying to posts, or something drastic happens, you will be hearing from me weekly and no more or less.

Hear goes nothing June 8th 8:33 AM 359 lbs.

Hopefully I will be saying September 8th 8:33 AM 310 lbs.

Hey there!

Well done on the decision to change your lifestyle, it will be the best thing you ever did! You seem to have everything well thought out and I like th idea of moderation. Men seem to drop lbs much faster than women so your goal may be achieveable with work. I hear ya about not enjoying the treadmill - boxing and swimming are great exercise though so you're not missing out.

One thing I would say is that your calories seem to be way too low. You're very tall and weigh a lot and I think you need more than that - if you look at the sticked threads you will find a link to a calculator that works out how many you need in a day.

Good luck and keep posting :)

well these first two days have been a wash pretty much.I utterly failed to change any of my habits, I haven't weighed myself per se, but i have been eating more fruits and vegetables probably by like ten fold, im hoping when i get into the gym and get blown up by my lung capacity i'll get a little more inspiration. until then im going to avoid the dreaded scale.

Congrats on the lifestyle changes, edisraw!

The begining is tough. I found that there were so many things to change that it would take forever if I only changed a few things at a time. My advise--jump on in. Kick the bad habits and stick with your decision. I mess up every now and then like the rest of us, but I try to make up for it with exercise or a stricter diet the following day.

The boxing sounds like a cool idea. I think I'm going to see if boxing is offered anywhere around here. A lot of great cardio as well as strength and speed training----sounds A-OK to me.

Good luck with your goals. Put in the work and you will see results. The feeling of losing 80+ lbs in 5 months is amazing. You'll understand soon enough!:seeya:

Yea thats my realization as of right now, jumping in as soon as i wake up in the morning (I stayed up all night), and if i lose 80 some pounds in 5 months i'll be a fucking sexy beast. Figure with the boxing and swimming i'll be pretty toned and avoid a bit of left over flub and what not, in turn my bp will drop and i'll stop getting this "stress throb" in my temple that my doctor assures me of...im kind of a hypochondriac so that alone is motivation to lose weight.

The First week is pretty much a scrap, i actually gained 2 pounds or so but im not worried about it, I've been eating like a pig and the not smoking doesn't help, BUT i've also been not exercising so i have tons of reasons i haven't lost any weight and i except those reasons, i've recently started my 70 percent raw diet, in hopes of eventually being 100 percent within the next 3-4 months.

I officially cut my intake to 2000 a day.

Hi there!

Looks like you clearly know what you want to achieve and how you want to do it. That's excellent.

I don't think your goal is unreasonable, although I would give myself at least 10-12 months to get there. Once you get into the swing of things, the weight will come off fast at first but gradually slow down the more you lose (usually).

Swimming and boxing are two fantastic ways to work out. I don't actually box, but I love to work out on the heavy bag. It's a good full-body workout, and really gets the heart pumping and the sweat pouring. Swimming is also a great full-body workout.

I agree with Fat to Fabulous that your calorie target seems very low for someone of your size.
Try going to FitDay.com and plugging in your height, weight, age, gender and all that. It will give you your basic maintenance level (the number of calories you need to stay at your current weight), and then you can adjust your intake by -500/day for each pound you want to lose per week. It is a great tool and I highly recommend it, even if you just use it to get a good handle on your food intake. Most people take in a lot more calories than they think they do.

I wish you success in reaching your goals.
