From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

Looking good Q. You don't look close to 311 pounds in that pic, but I think you just have a huge frame.

It's great that the running is going so well for you. Being able to enjoy the exercise I'm doing has been critical for me.

I really appreciate that Vee! I must say that I don't feel 311 either, but that's where I am.

Agree with Vee, you look way better than what the scale says!

The miles per pound ratio is interesting.

Thank you Guideon! It will be interesting to see what I weigh when teh gut and lovehandles are gone.

I have to say that the NIH body weight simulator does not work for me with short term weightloss goals. It calculates my calories way too high to maintain the same rate of loss for the next 3 months. 3,248 calories when I've been trying for 2,300 for the loss rate I've had.

I did figure out that with the same settings, but using a 200 pound goal 2,300 calories works out to 60 weeks.

My current rate of loss has been 1.23 pounds a week which would take 90 weeks to go from 311 to 200 that gives 2,656 calories.

I could believe that I have averaged 2,656 for the 3 months so far. You figure in cheat meals, time not estimating calories, and the initial increase in appetite that running gave me.

The 60 week model is a rate loss of 1.85 pounds/week which is still healthy weight loss rate. Staying at 2,300 calories over the entire course of weight loss from this point forward will get me to 200 pounds 7 months sooner than 2,656 calories IF it's right.

So NIH body weight simulator:

short term = BS

long term = seemingly and hopefully accurate

:iagree: with the above. You don't look anywhere near over 300lbs Q. I think it's great that you are loving your running. Exercise that you enjoy doing makes a huge positive difference in so many ways. Just the increase to your general mood alters how you look at everything. I am really enjoying reading your diary and appreciate your visits to mine. Great work on the running V & your determination to lose weight.

Thank you very much Cate! I carry the weight well I suppose. I'm happy we can support each other. I'm happy to see your improvements despite so much stress. Keep at it!

Seemed short after 5 days of 3.5 milers. Had a cold snap and my hips felt tight at first, but then I ran pretty hard once I warmed up to stay warm. Decent run. I feel great now.

Below my 2,300 calorie target today. I might snack later, but I won't go over.

Quercus, I'm not familiar with the NIH body weight simulator, but I did found this ermm... Weight change predictor (Ha) when I was surfing around the other day.

Not sure really sure if it may* help, but just in the case it might;

First link is how I actually got to the calculator, second one is the calculator itself.

Here is the one I used. It is the same one MrVee used as the base for his adaptable model.

I'll try yours out too. I can follow both and see which one is the better predictor.

NIH

60 weeks 2,300 calories 200 pounds

90 weeks 2,656 calories 200 pounds

PBRC

60 weeks 2,300 calories 221 pounds

90 weeks 2,656 calories 229

60 weeks 2,656 calories 237

90 weeks 2,300 calories 211 pounds

The PBRC doesn't get me to 200 pounds with 2,300 calories. It levels out under 210. The NIH model is 20 pounds lighter at 6 weeks and 29 pounds lighter at 90 weeks.

A primary difference between these models is that the PBRC model doesn't account for exercise and the NIH does. It will be interesting to see which one is the better predictor. The good news is that both accept my calorie level as creating a healthy rate of loss.

This was to the highway and back for the first 2 miles (hilly).

For comparison:

1/19/2014 32 mins 19 sec avg hr 155 2 miles

Same "course" minus the .18 mile after the lap to the highway. I hit the 2 miles around 28 minutes this time so 4 minutes better @ 1 bpm faster in a little less than 3 months. If I could keep that rate of improvement I'd hit my 30 minute 5K on a hilly course in another 6 months or so.

My hips were pretty tight this evening. I did some extra warmup and it loosened up some, but they were still tight when I started running so I took it easy. It was the right move as they feel better now.

Hi Q, Just thought I would pop in to wish you a happy Easter break. Hope the hips stop bothering you! Cheers xo Cate

Happy Easter Cate! The hip feels fine.

Kind of a bummer that an extra 13 bpms for a half hour only nets me another 10th of a mile. This was a moderately taxing effort. I skipped the warmup/smfr stuff because we didn't get back home until after dark. It sucks not eating dinner until 9:30, but living so far from town we have to do things directly after work. A minor matter. No matter how hungry you are it dissipates once you hit your stride.

1st annual Easter 5K trail run
Clock Time: 37:32
Pace: 12:06/mile
Overall: 36 / 47
Gender: 24 / 27
Age Group: 3 / 3

I beat my best 5K time by more than 5 and a half minutes and wasn't dead last. It was a lot of fun and I'm glad I did it. Age group is people my age. Awards were actually just split under40/above 40 though.

I got a 1xl tshirt that fits, goodie bag, participant medal, and won $150 gift cert to a spa.

My average heart rate was 172 bpm. Max was 180. I didn't feel like I was dying at any point, but my muscles did burn and I am a bit stiff already.

The top 2 places where in the 18 minute range and 3rd was 20 min. Very supportive and friendly people.

Wow you look great! And looks like your running is improving, what a great way to celebrate Easter! Glad to see that your hard work is paying off :hurray:

Thank you Cate, Jade, and Athala! And yes Athala a $30 dollar entrance fee and I got a shirt, $150 gift card, and a bag of goodies.

Just a nice slow recovery run. It got the blood flowing into the sore muscles and got my joints loosened up a bit. Back in January I ran the same distance and time and my average HR was 148 BPM. So I have a long ways to go, but I've come a ways too.

HR seems a bit high for the distance, but it may be because my muscles are sore and I talked the whole time. Moderate difficulty.

I just wanted to stop by and say woo hoo :D

Congrats on your lifestyle change and weight loss so far :hurray: You really look great!

Keep up the great work, you're an inspiration!
