From alpha testing to the QUERCUS 200

I took it easy tonight, but I was only .12 mile off my best distance last night. Go figure. I corrected last night's run in the post above as I mistyped it.

9th day in a row running.
46 days of daily workouts.
36 days since my first run without walking.

So the idea of it taking 6 weeks to solidify a habit has passed for daily workouts and arrived for regular runs. I don't know if my body is ready for daily runs without break, but I've made it past the first week and the rest will be figred out. Nothing wrong with taking a day off when I need to, but hopefully that is a rare exception from here on out.

I had forgotten that I had placed a pair of jeans on the dresser that didn't quite fit last go round. They fit rather well so that will make 3 pairs of jeans retired as I will count the jeans I tore now that I have them replaced.

I also got all of the laundry in the house cleaned and put away (with my wife's help), took out the trash, washed most of the dishes, and made a vegan frittata from my first batch of homeade tofu. i also made soymilk for my wife's coffee this week.

I'll have 1.7 cubic shitloads of field work this coming week which will be a test of my string of runs. I'll do my best and I'm happy to be at a point where a slow run is kind of a break so hopefully I can keep the ball rolling.

Is it odd that I immediately busted out the calculator and determined that the sides of such a cube would all approximately be 1.193483 shitloads long?

Don't answer that, I already know the answer...

WOWSERS Q!! 9 days running? Impressive!!!!

V, you're used to doing shitloads of math so doing math of shitloads is a nice change of pace for you.

Thank you Cate! I've never done that before. Even as a teen in athletics we would run maybe 5 days a week max with a rare 6 days in a row with a Saturday practice during football (American of course).

Run felt good tonight.

Field work was delayed a day. So I cooked another tofu fritatta. I was working on changing it a bit. I added a craker crust and upped the tofu and veggies as well as some sage and cholula hot sauce. It was rather good and different enough to not feel like the same meal as yesterday. I plan to make a Mexican version of it too.

Ran with a coworker. It was nice to have a running partner. My heart rate seemed abnormally high. I wasn't winded and yet I'm 9 bpm above max aerobic. I think it has to do with my asthma medication as it can cause tachycardia (rapid HR). Before I slowed down to stay in the zone, but tonight I just payed attention to my breathing rate and how I felt and didn't worry about the HR.

It could be that this is day 11 in a row too. The walking and stretching were necessary because I was feeling tight and sore.

My buddy that ran with me stayed at my pace, but stopped to walk a few times and then caught back up. He weighs 180 and is 15 years younger than me. :)

Short day of field work today, but it was hot (90F).

Today's run was tough. My coworker ran with me again which was great. I feel like he pulled me along. It was sunny and 90F with 20 mph wind. Going from running in freezing and cold temps to 90 stinks. At least the ground is flat here and I go home tomorrow. It's going to be hard to run after spending the day cooped up in the stinky work truck, but I'm hoping the physical rest will help my legs. My calves felt like they were going to explode today and my hips and knees were tight and a little painful at the start of the run. Running this spring and summer will mean that my legs will get enough sun that shorts aren't embarrassing. I put on a pair a few nights ago after a shower that had never been worn. They fit fine so I pulled the tags.

I'm going to treat myself to some vegan Italian tonight. The place in the town I'm stuck in is pretty good and serves a pasta primevera that is grilled veggies, olive oil, and spaghetti. I may have a bit of their bread which is likely vegetarian, but I'll live.

Had an easier time tonight, but I accredit that to it being more than 40 degrees cooler and having not worked in the field before.

Driving 8 hours north between runs is a good way to do that. The drive between the furthest points I went this week would be about 10 hours and I never saw the state border. Texas is big.

Well I'm past the 60 mile mark for running and down a half inch on my belly measure to 53" this morning. I may retry the "close jeans" tomorrow.

I'll be working up a spreadsheet and backlogging all my running. My mileage may change some as I never feel certain as to whether or not I've recorded my daily run on my ticker.

Thank you Cate! Day 15 in a row this evening.

No hr tonight as I left my phone at the house by accident. I ran with my cousin this evening on a quarter mile concrete trail. The concrete was rough on my feet and legs. I think my running shoes are about shot. I bought them in 2010 and the soles are worn flat on the fronts. I haven't noticed before running on concrete. He lapped me 3 times, but I made a new personal record so no shame in my performance. He was impressed with my dedication and calves. He assured me that I would have really quick progress if I was already at a place where I could run daily.

I ran back and forth to the highway which includes several steep hills. It was of course harder, but I didn't really suffer on distance or time. Not only did I make the 2 milesround trip in under 30 minutes for the first time, I also ran .2 miles back and forth to make it to 30 minutes.

Last try was January 19th and it took 32:19 to make the 2 miles there and back. That's about 4 minutes slower than today as I got back just past 28 minutes.

So apparently the answer to the question "When should I reward myself with a GPS watch?" is when i find it on sale. I ordered a GPS watch and a very inexpensive running shoe. The difference in the shoe cost compared to the current cost of Brooks Beasts covers the price of the GPS watch. The shoes may not work as running shoes for me, but they hve considerable positive reviews from persons that have ran marathons in them. They are ugly and French which would explain the cheap price tag, but I have high hopes for them. If they don't work for running I will use them as regular shoes and shell out the big bucks that I have to.

A side note: Being vegan has meant almost no eating out in town where my wife and I live and work. We were eating vietnamese and one meal via a salad bar. the salad did not agree with me and the Vietnamese place failed their health inspection. So we have been saving a ridicoulous amount of money between not eating out and our primary protein source being homeade tofu and other vegetable sources. Another perk to veganism. Of course it's also a hassle when you'd like to go out to eat, but that's never been too good for the diet either.

This is an old pic, but I thought it was funny. He's 6' tall, Mom's under 5 feet .

On the left side is a small log cabin that my Father and I built when I was young. It was in the woods, but it was moved to the yard when I was older for use as a chicken coop and it's now a crib for peanuts, onions, and potatoes. To the right is his barn that was built mostly from a large red oak tree that was struck by lightning, milled and cured on sight. I helped him build that too. I have an end table and hat rack from that tree too.

Took it easy tonight because my legs hurt. I was hoping that they would loosen up, but they still hurt. I day of concrete followed by a hilly run and my legs are toast. The bright side is that I still managed over 2 miles even with a very low average heart rate.

The new shoes have shipped so that's one less issue soon enough.
