From >450 to <160 lb by 2022

Just running for 60+ minutes impresses me! You really have made impressive progress.

Thanks!

It has been a very gradual process - I could not walk continuously for 1 mile at my heaviest and was routinely walking 10K steps straight (10 months & 175 lbs later) before I ever started doing any running. At that time I was only running 30 seconds and then walking 3 minutes... It's been another 4 months & 50 lbs to get to running 60+ minutes continuously.

After the 60 minute 10K, I hope to do a 131-minute half marathon (June maybe?) and 262-minute marathon (September maybe?) with slower ones happening sooner.

I also got my road bike out of storage and, after getting new tires & it tuned up, I'll start putting miles on it now that I can ride in the drops without my legs hitting my gut. Additionally, I'll be vacationing for a week at the beach and will finally get a chance to do some swimming. All in all an exciting time as long as I can stay injury-free...

Your progress is certainly something to be proud of & I'm sure you are inspiring many people along the way, not just in here, but where you live. Well done, Err. It's good for all of us :)

A very exciting time! It's so impressive how consistent you are. Do you recognize your mirror image when you unexpectedly see it in a store window or something?

I understand, that really is the only way this works. No easy quick fix solutions, I think the patience and consistency to stick with it can be the hardest part.

When and where are you going to the beach? The vacation sounds great!

Week 8 is in the books...

I actually recognize myself more so now, but that may be because I avoided looking into mirrors before. I do seem to surprise others though.

I'll be going to Newport Beach in a couple of weeks. Going in covid times is different, but I'd rather isolate there than here...

Week 9 - Lots of endurance exercise + slacking on strength training = lean mass loss (although I hope some of it was just water)

Nice progress Err! How are you feeling right now? I'll have to catch-up on your thread over the next couple of days.

Hey Lingwo, great to see you back! I'm doing well - this week I'm on a beach vacation without my laptop charger and bad wifi so I won't be updating much until I get back, but that just means more time to enjoy the moment.

Minor update anyway: I went for my weekly long easy run yesterday and was at a much slower pace due to the hills & sand here. But that sand also made every step super cushioned so when my training plan was over at 90 minutes I felt great and wanted to keep going - possibly for a half marathon.

But around 2 hours I hit a wall and decided to stop for hydration & nutrition, resulting in 9.5 mile run. After the quick break I followed that up with a 600m ocean swim against the current. A grueling day, but it felt great. I even ate over 3,000 calories for the first time in over a year (having burned an extra 2000+).

Good to see you sticking with things whilst on vacation! That 600 m ocean swim sounds good to me, the sea is what I most miss having moved to Utah. Though the Orange county water is kind of cold by my standards...

Yeah, 59° is about as cold as the water gets here so the locals were all wearing wetsuits in the water, but it is pretty much the summer temperature of the snowmelt lakes I grew up with so I just went in shirtless. Getting in and out is a bit uncomfortable, but once in the water and swimming it feels fine (especially after a run when my muscles seem to be putting off extra heat).

When I first went in the only people showing skin had typical beach bodies. By the time I got out there were a number of larger folks catching some rays. Might have been a coincidence, but I'd like to think seeing some fat guy with fish belly white skin floundering in the water made it seem okay for the non instagram models to partially disrobe.

Good for you, Err. I wish I could get over myself & go swimming in the sea. I bet you slept like a log!

That is cold, the lowest temperatures the Gulf of Mexico in mid winter after a cold spell are about that. In Florida I did not consider the swimming good unless the water was at least 80 degrees, and it was for about 6 months of the year.
