Maybe this page could be tagged in order to help out some members so they won't have to open threads for very broad questions.
The object of this thread is for frequently asked questions. Many questions have been asked repeatedly and answered repeatedly. This thread should take care of the most frequently asked ones.
I'm hoping other memebers contribute questions they frequently hear on this site and the answers to these questiosn so new members can look here first.
I'll start.
Question 1
This is my workout schedule.
Day1-Biceps
Day2-Chest
repeat
What do you think of it?
Ok, I know they aren't all that bad but this is the general answer.
Body part splits are generally ineffective for the majority of the population. Much better results can be obtained from doing a Full Body Workout (FBW from here on out) 3 times a week.
In addition, it is important to do large compound movements as the movements that stimulate the most muscle fibers at once also stimulate the most growth. Isolation exercises (such as curls, any of the 10 types or so) will not reap as much improvement, as compound exercises like pullups and rows.
Another important point relating to the above workout is that you need to work the legs. Working squat or deadlit requires the most amoutn of muscles and the most amount of energy. These big lifts stimulate the body to produce more growth hormones which lead to bigger gains across the body. Also, it is unhealthy to have a severely unbalanced upper body. Back should be worked just as much as the chest.
Question 2
I've been doing DB curls, Barbell Curls, Hammer curls, and Preacher curls fora while now, but I haven't seen much improvement in my biceps. How do I get huge biceps?
The simple answer: Stop. Doing. Curls.
As pointed out above. Pullups and Rows all work the biceps and all lead to much better gains in both size and strength than curls do. Also, bicep peak is largely(though not entirely) determined by genetics.
Question 3
Is focusing entirely on cardio the best way for fatloss?
No it is not. Weight lifting is an important component of fat loss mostly to ensure that you do not lose too much muscle along with fat (low rep, high weight). Weight lifting is an exercise that burns some calories during the activities and more afterwards. Running for 3 miles or whatever only burns calories during that time at which you are running. It is best to combine both weight training and cardio activity for optimal fat loss.
Also, I assume that you are eating a deficit diet. You can't lose fat if you eat more calories than you expend.
Anyone got some other questions? Or want to talk about any of the answers I gave? Feel free!
