Hello Everyone,
Here is my attempt at a dairy, I don't know how much I will end up posting in it, but I will at least keep you up to date with the weight loss and measurements along the way.
I just started taking Champix to quit smoking two days ago, so this is going to be a rough week for me but I'm not too worried, I keep myself well stocked on sugar free gum, 0 calorie soda and theres always 1 if not 2 full celery stalks chopped and swimming in water in a container in my fridge. I'm a celery freak
So heres the Q&A:
How much weight do you want to lose?
I'd be comfortable if I lost 50lbs
What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
I don't like the idea of setting a time limit. I plan on doing this right so my only timeline is whenever my body adjusts to the new way of life.
How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
A balanced healthy food regimen & exercise to reach the fitness levels required for the type of lifestyle I've always wanted to have (I want to rock climb and be a great swimmer some day)
Who or what can support you in reaching your goal?
My husband has always taken a hold of my fiery attitude and provided consistancy in what would otherwise be a very chaotic life. He is enough of a support structure to be able to hold anything together. As far as inspiration, I have a 68 year old neighbor who can jump fences almost twice her height. She has inspired both me and my husband more then she will ever know.
How realistic is your goal?
Failure is a choice that I'm choosing not to make.
When will you start?
I started 1 week ago, I am just a bit late in posting this.
What is your current height and weight?
5'3 - 180lbs
Why do you want to lose weight?
Life as we are today is too sedentary for me. I need more movement, more freedom... less working at a computer desk, less playing on video games. I need to feel a bit of what life has to offer rather then how technology has mutated me.
What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which has kept me in a shell for most of my life. I have recently been through some group therapy & am feeling great. However there really is no 'off' switch when my mind decides to shut down on me. I foresee emotional barriers being the only thing that can get in my way and even they will have to be very strong to get through my new forcefield of determination.
Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
A sedentary life full of all that technology can offer us. Work on a computer, play on a computer, escape reality on a computer... its a wonder they haven't built a computer we can hook to our brains to control our dreams yet! That paired with having grown up learning that food is more of a luxury then a necessity
What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
I no longer use my computer or gaming consoles as a form of entertainment. I can't defeat the technology for the 'Work' part of my life, but anything that I can do for fun on a computer can be double as much fun out in the real world.
Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
I have lost 80lbs (from 260lbs to 180lbs) on a strict 1200 calorie diet of only lean meats, the correct forms of fats and drastically less carbs then we as a nation as accustomed to (IE: a balanced diet). I don't really know what made it so successful, at that point I did 0 exercise and probably lost alot of muscle in the process of the loss. I have maintained 180lbs for 1 year.
What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Atkins & non-balanced calorie restricted diets (IE: 'a calorie is a calorie')
They didn't work because they were diets that still kept my head wrapped around the fact that food was something to treasure and love. I would eat too much on Atkins and on a calorie restriction with no guidelines I would save and binge which lead to breakdowns.
Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
Yes, in fact I've been doing that for the past 8 days. I paid 20$ for a really nice little calorie dairy which also has a spot for carb/fat/protien grams so that I can keep them balanced throughout the day. Writing it all in a forum would be extremely time consuming for me though...
Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
Yes! I am a terrible cook but I do it anyway... every day. I consider eating out as one of the absolute worse things you can do if you are following a plan. Sure you can get the calorie information for most places you eat at but you cannot be sure they are cooking with unsaturated forms of fat, or that they aren't adding pure sugar to your meals. The only way to know for sure is to just do it yourself. Plus its much much cheaper.
What are your three favorite foods?
I am a Chinese food fanatic. My favorite would be a Chinese dish for sure, probably one of the deep fried meat dishes with a vegetable stir fry. Though even the won ton soup and an eggroll would be somewhere on the top of the list. Surprisingly my second favorite would be just a simple garden salad with a small drizzling of olive oil. I adore salads of all kinds. I can't think of a third that I like enough above the rest to be worth mentioning.
What are your three favorite restaurants?
1. Any Chinese Food Restaurants
2. Pizza Hut
3. Hot Dog Fast food Joints
If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
I have very body-dependant confidence and I know I have a certain amount of arrogance that is just waiting to surface. I'd be pretty stand-offish and I would stand up for myself more. Overall my entire life will change slowly which is perfect to work my way steadily back into a confident attitude. If it all happened at once I wouldn't know what to do with myself!
Do you eat when you are not hungry?
When I am emotional, yes.
Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
I have in the past though I haven't binged in a long time now.
Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
I have in the past, what a terrible feeling this is.
Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Guilty
Do you eat as a reward?
I have in the past although I haven't done this in a long time.
Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
I fixed this problem by not watching TV or using the computer (other then work) in my leisure time
What do you normally eat for a meal?
A mix of many different things, too many to list. Basically lean meats, unsaturated and non-trans fats, with fruit/vegetables low-fat dairy and whole grains as carbs.
What type of snacks do you eat?
Same as the above. In ratio my snacks are about half the size of my breakfast so they are quite large. I sometimes munch on celery sticks when I'm tense too.
27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Swimming (45mins) 5x per week
Gym (45mins-1hr) 4x per week (weights & cardio)
Tennis and Bike Riding (optional 2-4x per week)
28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
Local Public Pool & Local Gym & Public Park Courts
29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Swimming (by far!), Tennis, Hiking
What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
(Daily) Anxiety Relief, Leisure, Emotional Strengthening, Husbands Encouraging Words, Sunshine and Fresh Air
(Weekly) Scale Results, Physical Improvement, Emotional Strength
(Monthly) Measurement Results, Clothing choice improvements, Emotional Strength, Confidence Boost & Growth.
(Yearly) Body Changing Results, Proving my inner cynic wrong, Emotional Strength, Clothing Choices, Fitness goals becoming attainable, Ultimately having the Lifestyle I want.[/I]
Do you have rewards for certain goals?
Clothing is my reward of choice for achieving mini-goals (first mini-goal is 150lbs). However I try to reward myself on progress achievements rather then goal achievements. I have tiny star shaped stickers that I paste into my daily calorie dairy whenever I resist a huge craving or do extra good at my fitness work for that day.
