Forum Staff And VERY Active Users

I'm just on when I'm sitting at my desk at work. Very seldom will you see a post from me after work hours or on the weekends, because I am busy...moving!!!!
Then, there are people who really motivate and they take pride in motivating those who need it, so you'll see them often, but that doesn't mean their not bustin' hump in between those posts, ya know?

I think you would be extremely surprised to see how many people claim to have a supposedly extremely hard time losing weight and say that they don't have time to exercise, yet they're doing stuff like crying on a forum like this for an hour or more a day during their spare time and don't even realize it. I think all that this guy was trying to say was that maybe those people should spend less time doing stuff like this and more time working out. Obviously he was not referring to you.

I used to help with a weight loss class at my church. It turned into the same situation and I ended up quitting. These folks would come in at 6:30 PM and wouldn't get out until nearly 8 PM. Basically it turned into gossip time, and they would chit-chat and cry on each other's shoulders nearly the entire time, and usually the "instructor" would give some supposed tips for education. The last time I attended this tip consisted of "Enjoy your food", with 2 sentences explaining why. That was it. An hour and a half. Afterwards I cornered her by herself and also separately another lady whose idea it was to put the class together and asked them if they realized that they could have had a whole lot of cardio in during that time period instead and that time spent would be MUCH better, and they seemed insulted. It's quite ridiculous.

So yes, sometimes you do have to ask these questions, so I agree with the idea that he's getting at 100%.

Yea, and I don't deal with helping people lose weight on a consistent basis.

I would hope that we are all rational thinking adults around here that can make our own decisions as to what is right or wrong. If we are unable to do this, I suggest you work out some other issues before attempting weight loss.

And yes, many people do have some psychological issues. If you don't fix the mind first, you are never going to succeed at fixing the body. :)

I think this post is ignorant...as star said it is a weight loss forum...none of us need to justify why we are here or how often we are here...we have all become an internet family that we check in wiht regulalry...it is a support group and we all enjoy supporting eachother ands checkin in, I could break down my comp time and everyhting else for ya but why, I dont need ot justify my actions to you...those that know me and support me, know how little time I get here...but htis post bothers me alot...I think it takes alot of balls for someone to come in and point fingers...Plus if it werent for the forum staff ya wouldnt be here or have a forum to come to...

Exactly!!!!!;)

Hmmm...and to think before I decided to lose weight, my computer time was spent playing neopets...

(No. I'm not kidding.) ;)

At least now, when I'm here and posting, I don't snack on pringles.
;)

I think that sometimes, with some people, providing support to them would mean to state the obvious.

Like I said with that weight loss class at church, often I'd see a whole lot of so called "support", yet no action. Hardly anybody was changing their diet, and they definitely weren't exercising. Some people were still eating exactly like they were before, including drinking several cokes per day, then they'd come in and would be looking for "support" during the meetings. It makes no sense. I mean, come on, if you go to a class and want to learn how to lose weight, you should be able to handle somebody telling you to knock it off with the cokes and walk more instead of wasting time.

Anyway, in that situation, are you really providing help and support if you just let people cry about it even thought they're not really changing anything? That kind of "support" doesn't do anything, it's just a waste of time. An hour and a half per week to be exact.

If people really are looking for help and support, I think they should be prepared to hear things that they don't necessarily want to hear, and thoroughly consider them. Otherwise, they're probably just looking for a shoulder to cry on about their problems more than truly trying to do whatever it takes to lose weight.

Right, like I said. We are rational adults (hopefully this is not a big assumption). Aside from mental problems, if you are rational, yet choose not to take the steps necessary to lose the weight, yet rely on support to make you "feel good" that is a few steps shy of insanity in my opinion.

Mental preparation, IMO, is just as important as physical preparation. Skipping the first step most likely will lead to what seems like insanity from the previous paragraph.

Corndoggy,
I think what might be hard for many people to remember is that different people are at different stages of readiness.

It's like this forum for instance, there is a wide range of motivation & information levels - people will take what they're ready to take.

A year and a half ago, if someone would have told me I HAD to stop going through drive thrus, I would have told them to go to hell and they didn't know a THING about my life.

That was where I was a year and a half ago.

Today, I do some things right, some things wrong - is it perfect? no, not even close, but I am closer now to where I want to be then a year and a half ago when I hit the drive thrus roughly 4-5 times a week.

The point is, sometimes, with support, you have to start where people are - not where you'd wish them to be.

youdon't inhale cigars and w ith a nice glass of aged single malt scotch- it's sooooo nice... :D you don't look near as cool holding a chicken (well you probably do because i'm just hopelessly uncool :D

I'll take a cigar and some jack any day :)

Well, maybe not every day ;)

And Mal, I just can't see you trying to smoke a chicken, well, with your menu plans, maybe I could see you smoking a chicken...

AND looking cool in the process.

As for Steve, he just looks cool posing for the pictures :D

D,
off to look for some chicken...

So that is why everyone looks at strangely when I am out at the bar and I pull a chicken breast out of my pocket and start gnawing on it? Interesting! I always thought I had something hanging out of my nose or something.

oh the comments my twisted mind could come up with right now :)

bless me father for i have sinned, it's been too many decades sincemy last confession :D

so i'll behave... the chicken doesn't go bad whilst sitting in your pocket? :D
