Forearm hurting..

Hello all!

Im pretty new to weightlifting and I'd like to bulk up quite a bit..im 17, 6'2" and I weigh only about 140. Now everytime I do a rep using my curl bar which has 65lbs my forearm starts to hurt really bad, although I can easily do 10-15 reps with it every 30 mins or so.

I was just wondering if I had torn something or if I just took a break it'd heal..

Also, any info on a good bulk workout would be good, thanks =)

If you tore something, such as a muscle, you'd probably not be able to grip the bar in the first place. It's probably a pinched nerve thing. How's your form?

In addition, it does sound like you're new to lifting. 10-15 reps every 30 min is a worthless workout. Keep the reps 8-12 and hit it every 2 min for size.

When you do your curls are you curling your wrists before you curl the weight or are you keeping your wrists straight?

Also you should probably lay off this exercise if it causes you pain and see a doctor if the pain dont go away.

try less weight. it sounds like some part of your arm (wrists perhaps, or the forearm muscles) aren't as strong as your biceps.

I would also focus less on bicep curls and more on pull ups and barbell/dumbbell rows.

i have that problem somtimes, i dont have very big wrists. just make sure u get enough rest, dont do heavy vurls every day or two days, rest.

Have you tried using a straight bar or dumbells? Sometimes a curling bar puts your hands at an angle that is not good for your body structure and can cause pain that another hand position will not cause.

I've had this problem before. Is the pain along the outside of your forarm? If it is, then the problem is micro tears in the muscle going along your bone. It hurts like crazy, and even though you can do the repetitions, it still hurts like MADD.

personally, it felt worse to me than my shoulder...and rotator cuffs problems hurt bad.

Start incorporating lots of wrist curls into your workout and lay off of your bicep routine for a couple of weeks. Also, when you DO start doing your curls again, make sure your wrists are curled towards you to keep the stress off of that particular muscle in your forarm.

You should still go see a doctor though

Hope this helps

Thanks to everyone for the responses, I think I may go talk to a doctor about it but first ima try and work up my forearms a bit because I don't think they're as strong. And yes, I have used dumbbells and the straight bar and it still hurts..

just remember, you can build good forearms with heavy compound back exercises, as well as heavy shrugs.

i used to use straps a lot because my grip was weak. my grip never got better. so i put the straps int eh closet. my grip got stronger and my forearms got bigger, without any direct forearm training, just a couple sets fo bicep curls/hammer curls once or twice a week after all my compound exercises.

too much isolation will just jack your muscles up when they aren't used to it. it takes at least a couple years of training to achieve a point where 12 sets of biceps twice a week will have positive effects on your physique.

i have the same problem. It's become your forearms are more active than your biceps. Either you are not doign your form right or you are literallyy just forcing yourself to use the wrong muscles.
