Hi all,
Before I go out to party in 30 minutes, I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm 29 years old, not been very active during my 20s and in recent months really let myself go (in terms of shape). I'm (or was) a 34" waist and now seriously beginning to stretch the waistband of everything I wear. I'm 5ft 10" in height and about 143 pounds (almost 12 stone).
I've been thinking about going to the gym for a month now and in recent weeks in my mind I think of any excuse I can so I delay signing up to my local gym.
In some areas of my body I think I'm fine. I've always had skinny arms since I was about 18 when I used dumbells (excessively). Using them gave me no muscle because I realised I was lifting them too many times and not increasing the weight. It took me about 1 year to realise this, however I did lose a lot of weight I think in doing that.
Sorry I'm waffling on lol. My first aim is to lose weight ideally, then hpefully move onto weights. I have been told in the past, that if a person is unfit and wants to goto the gym, they should not do weights at the very start. The person should improve their fitness first and then start on weights. Does this sound correct to you guys?
I have no clue really about exercises and stuff so I think for the next few days I'm going to be doing some research on what I should do. Part of my motivation for the fitness is certainly the need to lose weight, the other part is because I am going to Brazil in April. Although I will be in Sao Paulo, if my amigos want to goto the coastal area for the beaches etc, then I'm going to look like a beached whale lol. For this reason part of my motivation is holiday related, as I'd say I've a big pot belly-like stomach that needs to shift. I think my thighs are a bit fat also, well I say a bit, I mean they simply are
I don't think I can shift alot in 3 months, although I guess it may be possible, but I don't really know what is realistic and what is not. If anyone can recommend any sources of information for me to look at, or any advice then it would be greatly appreciated.
Ok, now it's time to party!!!!
Happy New Year!!!
