If you are doing 45 min on the treadmill you most certainly are burning calories!!! lot's of em. To lose 2 lbs a week you need to create a 500 calorie deficit per day. So if you cut 200 calories out of your food each day (as simple as not drinking soda, for instance) & burn 300 calories on the treadmill, you will lose weight.
I'm not a fitness expert, but from everything I've read, doing 30 min. on a treadmill at a speed & incline that is challenging but not to the point where you can't hold a conversation is plenty!

Morning,

For the most part, treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, etc give you an estimated number of calories burned. Could be more, could be less. If you really want to know how many calories you burned in a treadmill session, invest in a heart rate monitor. Don't get discouraged. 45 minutes busting your bum on a treadmill (on an incline) is a great workout. Maybe the number of the scale hasn't changed, but how does your clothes fit?

Also... the idea to lose 2lbs/ wk you have to burn 500 calories per day is also estimated. Each person's body is different. If only life were that easy. ;) Good luck.
